Amadeus Pro is an audio editing tool for the Mac that works quickly and easily to record, split, edit, and export audio tracks. While not as feature rich as a tool like GarageBand, it runs a lot smoother and faster and has a few tools that make it a bit easier to use, at least up front, than other comparably priced tools.

When you install Amadeus Pro, you can start using it immediately in a trial mode that lasts for 30 days. Therefore all of the tools are unlocked and you can start recording, creating new tracks, editing, and exporting to CD or audio file. Everything you'll need for basic editing is onscreen, while more advanced tools are hidden in the file menus. This can be frustrating, at times, because you won't know where everything is and the manual for the software has to be downloaded separately. However, the tools that are provided will cover 90 percent of what you need to do in most basic editing situations. The best part of Amadeus Pro, however, is the speed and flexibility of the tools; there was rarely a slow down or pause in our editing and rendering occurred very fast.

If you want a fast, easy-to-use editing tool that doesn't overload you with options or slow down whenever you press a button, then consider Amadeus Pro. It's not a perfect audio editing tool and the full price is a bit higher than some apps with more features; but for those that like a smaller, lighter app with more responsive controls, this one gets the job done very well.

Pros
Intuitive, simple to understand interface. Does everything I desire, easily and promptly. If only I could find a wife like Amadeus Pro.
Cons
The most recent version (2.1.7) is not compatible with my newly upgraded Operating System (10.10.4). When I try to get it to open it always gives me an error message. I was lead to believe we would get along just fine. Okay... NOW I have a wife like Amadeus Pro.
Summary
Great for those of us who were once sound editing virgins. But seems we are growing apart.
Very clunky, documentation sucks!

Pros
Very fast at pitch conversions, for example converting audio from an old 16 RPM record recorded at 33 RPM, conversion is fast!
Cons
Record interface useless! No pause, no clip guard, just guess and pray! Also, the denoising tools are worthless! No logic to the control interface....select audio first, then try preview? What and where in the waveform am I previewing? The curser head indicator doesn't move in denoise...this entire app feels like you're shooting in the dark....results may be OK, but you cannot monitor what you're doing! Most frustrating navigation ever! Have to do all navigating, selecting etc from drop downs.
Summary
Waste of time and money! Tab back to start doesn't work either....
The only app I use for music editing.

Easy to cut and paste song sections I can't ever recall the developer asking for more money for new versions.

Interface is better but still a little clunky.
Summary
I do a lot of song/music editing. Most of my Web design customers are in the music business and don't want whole tunes downloaded for free. It's very easy for me to make up samples to play as background or to be used for tunes on a given recording.
Upgrade option does not work. No communication path.

I love this product and use it all the time.Best in the business.
Cons
I upgraded without any warning that this upgrade required a new purchase. I found a path to upgrade rather than buy but all I get is that there is something wrong with my product.
Summary
I won't rate this badly because of an admin glitch, which is what I hope it is, but I will not give it a high rating unless they turn this around.

Pros
Excellent support. Reported a problem on previous version 27 December 2010. This latest version was available 13 January, 2011.
Cons
It is really tedious to clean up clicks and scratches found on recordings I make from old vinyl records. That is a problem mostly of the records. But the process is not fun.
Summary
Excellent flexibility changing whatever input format I start with. AIFF, mp3, MPEG. I edit in AIFF and convert back to a compressed format to be stored on my iPod. Will convert stereo to mono. Probably can do many other things that I do not need to do right now.

Pros
This guy never stops improving his software. I would compare him with the folks who write BBEdit. Amadeus is still the best tool I have found for editing clips for a lot of the Web sites I design (I have a lot of musician clients).
Cons
The interface has vastly improved but still has a kind of clunky look.
Summary
I'm a fan of Amadeus and have been almost since its inception.
Helps me converting and editing music files.

Amadeus II is supposed to find the quiet spots inbetween different songs, and automatically break the one long recording of the LP into individual cuts. I can't evaluate Amadeus II, since I bought the Pro version thinking Pro would be better, but I can tell you that the automatic track splitting did not work at all for me , at least after 15-20 minutes of tweaking each time on three different albums. Don't waste your time. Try Boom Box/Spin Doctor, which is also not great in automatically finding the breaks between songs, but at least the manual defining of each cut is very easy.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />I gave this product a rather harsh review a while back because some potentially useful advanced features were not documented at all, including a couple that I really wanted to use. That situation colored my ratings, but in retrospect that wasn't fair to the author and, more importantly, to users looking for a sound editing utility, since this might actually be the best choice for a lot of people. The basic interactive sound editing features work well and the program is quite stable; unlike some other applications I've used in the same class, this one has never mangled my data. This is the sort of utility you want to have available even if you already have a much more powerful sound track editor at your disposal (sort of like it is handy to have GraphicConverter around even if you also have Photoshop) because it is more straighforward to use this for simple editing jobs. Unfortunately, although this application has capabilities well beyond simple visual cut and paste, the manual simply blows off documenting many of these features. In some cases documentation in the manual could be considered optional if there were even clearly explanatory tooltips in the dialogs, or some sort of online help available that documented these functions, but even this is missing. If a future version of the program includes adequate documentation of these functions, I would definitely give it five stars. As it is, I equivocate between three and four but since I was overly stingy before, I'll give it four.
