I will be upgrading to the Pro version for my new Intel-based Macs. This is an excellent product with a long history of positive reviews. It is unfortunate that some recent buyers were not offered a better upgrade price to the Pro version.

I feel screwed by this developer upgrade policy from Amadeus II to the Pro version. I purchased Amadeus II within 30 days of Pro coming out, and will wind up paying more money than if I had just purchased the Pro version had I known it was coming out. This developer is saying I should have seen the announcements on their website about the upcoming Pro version. I say it should be ANY developers policy to allow a no charge upgrade to a product if it was purchased within a 30 day period. Amadeus II is nothing but a subset of the Pro version, and as such, I would have certainly purchased it instead of Amadeus II.

The feature I think it sorely misses is multitracks. As little as four tracks will suffice and make it a truely excellent program and a true successor to Sound Edit. Can't wait for a Universal Binary of this. Yes please!

Has a much fuller feature set, more file format options, vastly more effects, the noise reduction feature means I have scarcely needed to touch SoundSoap since installing this. Documentation is quite good. App seems very stable. One thing I miss from Sound Studio is the ability to customize appearance- I could make my screen dark with a light waveform, which makes the machine less distracting in darkened-room live-performance situations (and probably also easier on the battery). The "stock" meters are also not as easy to read as the ones in SoundStudio, but there may be plugin ones that would be fine (still learning digital audio recording!) Audacity is also nice, stable, has a pretty good feature set (esp. multichannel capability if you want it), but there are enough "extras" in Amadeus to make it worth shelling out cash for IMO, for anyone who does much audio recording and/or editing. Bottom line: Audacity is nice but.. unless you are REALLY strapped for cash or a freeware fanatic, Amadeus is very much worth the money.

I read a few reviews of other apps that had issues with large files and tried this one first. It's absolutely perfect. - Hook up your line-in - Start recording with the timer set for 30 minutes (or however long your recording is) - Come back later and it's all there - Use built-in noise reduction to get rid of tape hiss - it works perfectly - Mark sections of the file if you want (songs, etc.) and use "cut to new file" to create a different file for each one - trim off empty space at the beginning and end if you want... - Save each section directly to MP3, choosing the bit rate, and setting the ID3 tags right in the app - voila - you've got an mp3 of your old analog audio, you've gotten rid of the tape hiss, and it took less than a minute of your time. Drag it onto itunes and you're done. Registering right now... this is exactly what I wanted. I rated the documentation as 5 stars because the app is so well written you don't need any.
Works well, no longer crashes.

The version checking bug has been fixed and I really appreciate the fact that version checking can be turned off.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />... but the GUI is horrible. <p> <ul> <li>The waveform starts and ends too close to the window frame <li>Loading more files while already editing one and they and also the "loading alert window" are topping your file, disturbing and bungling your work ... instead of loading into background. <li>No usage of "Pos 1"/"End" key or something similar to jump to the beginning or end of a wave <li>How to fiddle the cursor to the exact end/beginning for e. g. inserting? Zooming in, set, zooming out? Why no shortcut? <li>No possibility to get rid of unnecessary formats like ÂµLAW, AVI and QT movie? <li>No possibility to preset the desired output format, which causes much additional efforts on working with many files. Otherwise something like Alt-Cmd-S would be enough to save it in that format and Cmd-S to save it in the original format. <li>And Amadeus gets slow as hell if you are working on more than one file and try to edit one while the other is loading or saving, or when you try to save 3, 4, ... files, you have to wait long time. Something like a "Save all" (to original and to "set for output" format) would be fine. Then you could do something else instead of waiting minutes until the last save-dialog appeared. <li>No shortcuts for many functions <li>No possibility to collect ones main functions into a toolbar and/or address shortcuts for them?! </ul> <p>  <p> Amadeus crashes on saving files with long names, at least with bigger (50 MB+) files. <br> The shortcuts for fade in/out don't work at all. <p>  <p> Now it's up to you! <p>  <p>

I've used this program for several years now and it seems to get a little better with most upgrades. This version seems to be quicker, but it's more of a gut feel. ... but as a comparison, it took 65 seconds to convert and save an audio file (128 MHz, 3.2 MB, 3.5 minutes) into MP3 format. I've found this software to be very useful to clean, filter, amplify, and to enhance the loudness for many of my old MP3 files. However, I've never compared it to any competitive software. The support has been good and so far, all upgrades have been free. Thanks!
