Famatech's Advanced Port Scanner is a free tool that can help you figure how many ports your computer has, and where they are, and their status. It can scan all your ports or just those in ranges you define, and not just on your main PC but on all your networked computers. Advanced Port Scanner is easy enough for novices, thanks in part to a friendly Scan Wizard. We ran it in 64-bit Windows 7 SP1.
The software excels with several key features. It performs fast port scanning, allowing multiple ports to be scanned at the same time, which saves a lot of time. The remote access capability lets you control other computers from afar. You can get detailed information about all devices connected to your network. Features like Wake-On-LAN and Remote PC shutdown are included too, which help you remotely turn other computers on or off. There's also an option to easily access any resources the scanner finds. Moreover, you can run commands on a remote computer, making it easier to manage your network from wherever you are.
Advanced Port Scanner's installer created and even opened a Start Menu folder for the program, yet the folder was empty. However, we found the executable file and program data in Advanced Port Scanner's Program Files folder, along with its Compiled HTML Help file. We were able to open the Help file from the menu bar, but some users running 64-bit Windows systems may have trouble opening it due to a known issue with CHM files created for 32-bit Windows. The program's simple interface offers a default ports list as well as the ability to select IP and port ranges.
Using the network scanning feature in Advanced Port Scanner is simple:
- Set your IP range: First, use the "IP" button on the toolbar to choose the range of IP addresses for your network.
- List the ports: Enter the ports you want to scan.
- Start the scan: Click "Scan". The software will show a list of network computers with details about their open ports.
Advanced Port Scanner is ideal for anyone tasked with keeping a network secure and running smoothly. Its user-friendly design and powerful features provide great support in network management tasks.
Bottom Line
We clicked File and selected Advanced Port Scanner's Scan Wizard, which not only scans for open ports but can also identify the PCs on your LAN and whether any of them have open ports, too. This easy-to-use tool asked us for information such as our machine's speed and whether we planned to keep working during the scan. You can scan all your system's ports or just the standard ones. Scans can take time, so take yours, too. A tree view displayed all the IP addresses and open and closed ports for each PC on our LAN. Advanced Port Scanner's results can help you secure your PC and LAN.
