Used Actual Checkers 2000 A for Windows?
Editors’ Review
In spite of a few issues, this virtual checkers game makes a mostly compelling argument for itself. Actual Checkers' somewhat crowded interface can initially be off-putting, as many different icons and a statistics pane flank the actual gameboard. Also, though the checkerboard itself can be resized, trying to maximize the main window only actually makes the main window's shell larger. You can choose from several computerized opponents, although the demo won't let you play against another human. Other features inlcude the ability to select from several boards, chip styles, and borders; turn off the sound effects; and disable the one rather unexciting skin.
All the computerized players are pretty tough to beat, and gameplay goes pretty much as you'd expect with one big snag: when you have an open jump, you can't choose to strategically ignore it for the time being; Actual Checkers forces you to take it immediately. We're not sure whether this is a demo restriction or a glitch, but it definitely puts a damper on things. However, considering the game's other pluses, we can cautiously recommend it to both new and seasoned checkers fans.
