We review a lot of personal finance software, and to be frank, most of it is pretty bad; such programs tend to have terrible, confusing interfaces and a decided lack of important features. Accounts and Budget Free is a happy exception to this trend. Although the program doesn't compare to the big-name financial software that dominates the marketplace, it's definitely a good choice for users who want a decent program without having to spend money to get it.

The program's interface is attractive and intuitive, with just a few menus and a handful of well-labeled buttons. Although users can enter transactions manually if desired, Accounts and Budget Free makes things easy by letting users import transactions from their bank in QIF, OFX, CSV, and TXT formats. Users can view income and expenses as graphs, a fairly standard feature, but there are a few other features that really make Accounts and Budget Free stand out. The program includes a due date tracker to help users pay their bills on time and a budget tool that helps users develop plans for spending and saving. Our only real complaint about the program is that no matter how many times we told it our currency was U.S. dollars, it kept resetting to the euro. This didn't seem to have any real impact on the program's function, but it was a little annoying. Accounts and Budget Free comes with a 77-page PDF Help file that is quite thorough, although it's obvious that its author was not a native English speaker. Despite its minor flaws, Accounts and Budget Free is an easy-to-use and effective financial management tool.

Accounts and Budget Free installs and uninstalls without issues. We recommend this program to everyone.

This is NOT freeware - just free to try. Some reviews said it was freeware, others reported that it was not. Some said that is was now free but not previously. THIS IS NOT FREE if you want to add one account! And you need two accounts just for a bank account and cash. And most people have more than this!

Didn't bother after popup that states more than 1 account or 100 data entries requires license$.
Cons
Extremely limited "freeware", it is not really free, it is a trial designed to get you hooked into their system and paying for it -- in this case $38. Shame on CNET for not discerning and stating this abuse of the term freeware.

Unlike previous reviews, software is (now...) actually free, developers must have had a change of heart. License agreement does not specify a maximum number of transactions, nor does the software stop working at 200 transactions. I am now on 263 with no problem. Software is very good. I like the historical trending and future budgeting, and comparing the two, the most useful feature for me is letting it identify payers/payees directly from my downloaded statement, makes data entry very quick.
Cons
The user interface and program structure takes a while to get used to. But everything is accessible once you know where it is.

I have a little business of services, I must manage all transactions by using one account, this software is great for my needs. Friendly to use. I've tested more 15 freewares and it is the better for me.
Cons
I 'd like more graphics. But for now I export the transactions and i make some graphics from OpenOffice.

For me this software is exactly what i need. I can manage my transactions, plan a budget. I need no more. As i have only one account, this version free is a good solution.

Absolutely NONE! It is NOT FREE by any means!

I wouldn't even it buy it - there are many free budget and accounting software already out there...this one just tries to lure you in on a poorly designed program. I also had a terrible time uninstalling this.
