great program
kendeuce- Pros
- works great... stable, simple, and has several add on extensions that give it the same functions or more than MSN's im
- Cons
- has been buggy at times, but for the most part, works very good.
- Summary
- I use this program instead of the MSN one. For the mac, this works much better in my opinion than MSN. I like that it is simple, MSN's IM program is full of lots of extra garbage i never use and too many things going on in the interface.
A little blanc, but an alternativ for windows
GRSFEH- Pros
- the webcam support
- Cons
- The standard skin,
- Summary
works just finee, does its thing
tapasdesai- Pros
- works just fine. that IS a compliment wen it comes frm me :D
- Cons
- you cant search your contacts, takes time to log in (fr me) and eats up a fair share of bandwidth so be careful if you have a weak connection. and webcam video size is small.
- Summary
- ovrall, its a good mssnger :)
video chat will not work. msn kicks video at other end.
MicroMechanix- Pros
- you can type chat with msn users
- Cons
- as fast as they get it to work msn puts new hacks in to keep it from working. SCREW MICROSOFT.
- Summary
- I guess if you want to video chat with a mac your friends have to use AIM or ANYTHING that isn't micosoft screwed.
does the trick.
tapasdesai- Pros
- works perfectly.
- Cons
- no search-contacts feature. takes real long to start if ur on a slo connection.
- Summary
A very nice msn client alternative
alfaro89- Pros
- better than Microsoft msn, easy to use, customizable
- Cons
- no so good with video and call conference in mac os x, still a bit buggy
- Summary
- gr8 msn for mac, tho still needs some improvements over video and audio
Very disappointing
diiscovery- Pros
- It has lots of features, but it's not my idea of an IM client.
- Cons
- Runs very slow.
- Summary
- While it is one of the very few IM clients for Mac, it does not fill it's role well. The code it is programmed in is designed to be run on Linux systems, and Mac does not interact with the code very well, making it horribly slow - I'm running on an iMac with 2GB RAM and intel core 2 duo processors, and it slows my computer to a crawl.
Good MSN client, very slow hoever
bastones- Pros
- Full featured MSN client, good for general use
- Cons
- Uses a lot of resources, seems when I use aMSN my Mac and apps become slow (although I have only 512MB memory -- other MSN clients run fine).
- Summary
I guess any MSN client is doomed to suck...

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />It's really a shame that so many people (yeah, mostly Windows users) are so focussed on MSN as their primary IM and thus force so many others to use it as well...! <p><br> While this app is generally better (albeit uglier) and has more features than the original client from M$ it still has lots of problems...! First of all for some reason it takes like forever to launch...!? Then it places that stupid downloads folder on my Desktop, even though I have changed that setting in the prefs countless times...aaargh...! <p><br> The (German) localization has several errors, the GUI gets messed up occasionally, video -- although it generally works -- seems to bring down the app occasionally and the whole thing has crashed on me numerous times... <p><br> Unfortunately the ones of us who happen to have friends, colleagues and family who don't know better will have to put up with all this, since there are real alternatives around...and as long as there are several major IM systems out there, there will always be need for a good multimessenger that covers it all...! But that will probably always stay wishful thinking... <p><br> (Don't start with Adium or the resurrected Proteus now, or the few options that iChat has in that area -- non of that really covers it as good as is necessary...)
Seems to be \"perfick\"

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />When a pal of mine wanted a new laptop for his grandkids to use at his place, I was considering suggesting they get a PC, merely because that's what the kids would be used to. However apparently one set of grandkids go to a school which only has Apple Macs and the other lot were only concerned about being able to use MSN to chat to their mates. I know I've experienced some problems in the past with the lack of compatibility with an Apple Mac (being unable to use my webcam), but when I enquired at the Apple Store, they pointed us in the direction of AMSN which seems to work perfectly on my Powerbook G4(and on the new Macbook they've bought, I imagine they might also be able to mess around with all the funky effects available in the new Photo Booth app, although I have yet to try it out at their place and am just a little jealous that I don't have a built-in webcam, or Photo Booth to play with!!) When I first installed AMSN and ran it for the first time, it worked fine. However subsequently I discovered that it had created a problem whereby when I then opened iChat, it kept telling me that my webcam was in use by another application (despited quitting and rebooting). However I have two different drivers installed to work my Logitech webcam IOXperts webcam and iChatUSB cam and I eventually discovered that it was merely a matter of reinstalling the iChatUSB driver again and after that, everything was working fine and I was able to swap from AMSN to iChat without any trouble. I have never been much of a "Chat" junkie, mainly because we could never video chat with all the family in Ireland who are PC users (poor buggers!). But now I can see them and they can see us, I might well be at it all the time. Thanks a million to the creators of AMSN for all their hard work
