Eat your heart out, Windows Explorer. This powerhouse file manager beats the pants off Microsoft's built-in utility on almost every count. Start with the interface: Xplorer2 lets you browse two or more folders in one window using panes (as in Total Commander or FAR) and tabs.

You can save several window layouts and quickly switch among them when necessary. Visual filters let you more easily navigate overcrowded directories. Selecting several files is a breeze, since you don't have to hold down the Ctrl key. Xplorer2's tweaks aren't limited to the interface, either. You can rename multiple files at once, split and merge files, synchronize folders, and shred data to prevent recovery.

The program supports NTFS hard links (which are more powerful than shortcuts, allowing you, for instance, to move the source file without breaking a link). An enhanced DOS command line lets you create scripts for processing file batches. All in all, there's a good chance you won't go back to Windows Explorer once you get a look at Xplorer2.

Summary
Xplorer2 is what windows should have in it, being the stock programs in all windows are slow, sluggish and useless then we need Xplorer2. Its takes what Windows needed the last ten years and never has done and made windows powerful for techs and novices. If you own windows you need this, imagine a file preview that will play moves, mp3's and show windows documents . I use this program for allot of tools all wrapped in one. When I need something done I open this program it just make it easy to use windows is the only way to explain it. The small price on this program and the extreme power it has makes one ask why don't you have it ?

Very intuitive, quick, customisable views. Nice interface.

None, except a Desktop preview to show the actual Desktop would be a nice addition.
Summary
Makes various chores enjoyable (eg checking and removing duplicate files, sorting out Word documents v pdfs etc). The spec shows how you can alter the views, and have a quick preview etc. But it's not until you actually use the product that you realise how good it is. Another hint is that I use bookmarks to folders which contain shortcuts to programs and files for a specific task or hobby. Eg if I was doing Chess I would have a "Chess" folder with files and short cuts to my chess programs, a couple of web pages, a few key e-mails, etc. Maintaining the folder becomes quite fun by linking or copying new material as it arises.

- Dual pane is great for copying and moving files around - Ability to compare directories - Fully integrates into Windows to replace windows explorer - Search directories using wildcards - Search for text IN files - Favorites/bookmarks/dual bookmarks to quickly get what you need - Ability to customize the toolbar for easy access to bookmarks - Can keep the same folder settings or make the settings unique per folder - Ability to see folder sizes - Polished look and feel (this is where many others fall down)

- A bit pricey but worth it to have a great tool - May be too many options for the average user
Summary
I have tried several other windows explorer replacements and xplorer² is the best. Love the dual pane for managing folders and files, couldn't live without this now.

Sometimes customization isn't intuitive; some configuration items are a little oddly named Occasionally hangs when USB drives are removed without properly ejecting them The new ribbon interface doesn't quite yet make sense to me.
Summary
I've used xPlorer2 since well before 2008 and though I have occasional issues with the usability (where configuration items are stored and what is enabled by default), the program has made my life more organized and has provided extensibility for my customization. I've set up complicated renaming operations for types of files and images, elaborate file workflow, and managing gigabytes of files to ensure they're in the right place. Out of the box, xPlorer2 provides functions like sorting, previewing, filtering, checking for duplicates, and elaborate "Folder Groups," which are named clusters of folders that you can open all at once in tabs. xPlorer2 lends itself well to extension by AutoIt and Autohotkey and provides nice methods for calling other commands using the active folder and selected files in a pane. This is great for power users and takes advantage of utilities user in the xPlorer2 Forum have built for others. This is a "can't live without" software for me.

Summary
I have tried all of the replacement file managers, and by far this is the most feature laden, reliable, and supported program. It will take some time learn and unleash the power of the program, but it is time well invested to improve productivity. Recommended.

I looked at other competing products but the power of this tool along with the active development so far has been unmatched. I have been using Xplorer2 for a long time to replace my Windows Explorer file manager. The first and foremost of its benefits is of-course the dual pane layout, which allows you to manage all your files quickly and efficiently with little hassle. For me - keeping the Downloads folder always on top of the left pane - and 2-3 tabs (yes, it has tabs for quick access to multiple folder locations) on the left pane with my daily use folders helps a lot: downloaded photos / scans right into their folders (just hit F6 and the file is moved to the folder in the opposite pane, or F5 for copy), my email attachments go into the documents folder, etc. Additionally - the header address link-click allows me to hop over to any of the folders in the tree hassle-free and saves me a lot of typing or seeking in folder structure. Filtering is super useful for managing and searching my files for relevant data types.
Cons
Customization of almost everything is possible - but you'll have to dig into the preferences menus in order to get to know all of the possibilities.
Summary
You can customize almost anything in Xplorer2's layout., and its integration into the Windows shell is excellent, allowing you to unpack your ZIP files, play your music files etc in just a right-click. Xplorer2 is by far the best file manager I have ever used. If you need a quick, useful and intelligent tool, which is also highly customizable, look no further.
One of my essential Windows utilities

I have been using various versions of xplorer for over five years. The latest version has a number of extra utilities and an up-to-date interface. I used the program every day as an explorer replacement and do not know what I would do without it. The most useful part is the combination of dual folder view and file preview. I have given up with windows explorer and error messages "file cant be previewed". No such problems with xplorer. It also has the ability to store layouts e.g. two horizontal tabs or two vertical with preview. Bookmarks allows me to go to my most used folders quickly without drilling down from the root through sub-folders. I use the bulk file rename utility after the import of my photos to give them meaningful names. Other utilities I use frequently are "folder flatten" to show all files in a folder including those in the sub-folders and "find duplicates" and "filter" to search for and display only particular files. There are many more useful utilities.
Cons
I would suggest that the help could be more context related. There are many help topics and illustrations to guide you, but sometimes difficult to find exactly what you need help with. I think the price is reasonable but a better deal for upgrading should be available. Not everyone lives in a dollar rich country!
Summary
If you need to access and manipulate files this is an essential utility. If you still use Windows explorer you don't know what you are missing!

I have been using Xplorer2 Professional for many years and it is one of my favorite utilities. The Dual Pane methodology is what Windows Explorer should be. Being able to see two folders at a time and visually copy or move files between them is an amazing time-saver and avoids making errors. This program is guaranteed to make any heavy Windows user way more productive. I love the Bookmarks function to quickly get to my most-used folders. The customizable toolbar let's you see (and arrange) your favorite functions. The folder statistics in the Tools menu lets you easily see the the size of a folder and all it's sub-folders. I love the ability to Alt-Click on a folder and have it's contents display in the opposite pane. I have not seen this capability in any other competing product.
