Wayward Souls sends you on a quest through a maze of dungeons where you'll encounter all types of enemies to do battle with. As you advance, you'll also discover your character's special powers, and you'll uncover more secrets that will aid you in your quest.
Enjoyable replay: This game is great to play through once, but the real fun starts when you begin exploring all of the additional gameplay options available. To begin with, levels are randomly generated every time you play them, so the layout changes, and you can't just retrace your steps. You also have a choice of six different characters to play, and each of these characters has their own set of abilities and special powers that you'll unlock as you work through the different levels.
The Right balance: There are some tips that show up as you begin playing, but they're not too intrusive, and they provide just enough guidance without walking you through the game. The storyline strikes the right balance, as well, with enough details to drive the action and give context to your quest without bogging you down in endless dialog.
No difficulty options: The one gameplay option that's missing from this game is a difficulty setting. Because the game can be so enjoyable to players with a range of interests, it would be nice if there were different settings for novice players and those with more experience who want a real challenge.
Wayward Souls is a fun and engrossing game that provides a comprehensive gameplay experience. It costs $4.99 in the App Store, with no options for in-app purchases, although the developers have stated that they will increase the price of the app by a dollar every time they release a major update.
