This inventive program adds arcade gameplay to a word game. In Spellunker - Ace's Aztec Adventure, you clear a path to treasure, the exit, and bonus items by linking adjacent letter tiles to form words. The less time you take to clear a level, the more bonus points you get. Later levels introduce danger in the form of loose letter tiles that can fall on you and end your game. You can use gem tiles to increase a word's score and magic tiles to replace any tile on the board. Options include separate volume controls for the music and sound effects, as well as turning off the tutorial. The graphics and music both seem cartoony, but cute.
In the windowed mode, the game uses less than 1MB of memory; still, we had difficulty switching to any other program while the window was open. We only got to try out three of the four difficulty levels before we ran out of time. To start a new difficulty level, you have to exit the program completely. Saving a game saves over your previously saved game. Puzzle fans should enjoy Spellunker Ace's Aztec Adventure, despite those flaws.
In Spellunker Ace's Aztec Adventure you control Ace Spellunker, the intrepid treasure hunter. Help Ace find priceless treasures and artifacts in the ancient Aztec ruins. Spell words to clear paths, score points, and avoid death. Point multiplier gems will increase your score and magic blocks help you escape deadly situations. Find keys to open locked gates and reach higher levels. Have fun and increase your vocabulary at the same time with this addictive game.
Version 1.64 fixes a level generation bug which sometimes caused doors to be blocked by the closed exit gate on high levels. Version 1.64 also includes updated purchase module which speeds up the purchase process for customers.
