  February 26, 2014 For Windows 7, on a Gateway PC. For some reason, the new version of Spybot just didn't make me feel secure. I've been using it for yeeeeears! So I decided to switch. WHAT A MISTAKE THAT WAS!!! Downloaded Norman yesterday and ran a thorough scan, I had the scan settings set for high and extreme threats only. It took hours to complete, this is a fairly new computer and doesn't have much loaded on it yet. It consumed so much cpu and memory for the clean up I basically couldn't use the computer (there was no setting for priority on the program nor any allowance to lower the priority in the processes). But after the reading the reviews, I chalked this minor set back as the price to pay for a better cleaner. Wrong! Once it finished scanning for "threats", it automatically cleaned out the "threats"; there was only 8 "threat" that it found (I've literally had this computer for two weeks, didn't expect much to show up). The fun came once I rebooted the computer which, was right after the scan. Everything booted up as expected except for one tiny, minuscule, microscopic fact. There was no desktop. I mean, I literally had a white cursor floating in a black screen. Control+alt+delete worked just fine, but I still couldn't get any desktop controls, icons, background, etc. I finally rebooted, went into pre-Window load settings and selected last known good configuration. One of the few times I'm glad that Windows actually does something right. Got everything back, deleted Norman from programs. GOOD RIDDANCE! BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE

  I've used a lot of AV solutions in the past, from 1986, when viruses first became a problem, to the present time. Norman Maleware Cleaner is superb. It found eleven infected files in my 80 Gigs. For those who claimed that it gave ?false positives? and deleted their files with no way to reverse it, this is simply handled by switching ?no clean, Skip the cleaning process? off in the ?options? button. Then you can see what it scanned and test each file independently. My question is how did they know it was a false positive if it got deleted? I ran my 80 Gigs and it found 11 hidden Trojans that other programs missed. I switched off the deletion so that I could further examine them. Then I tested these with Avast, AVG, Norton, McAfee, and Trend Micro. Most of them missed it, but one other caught the same Trojan, so it was really there. This happened on all eleven, various programs hit and missed the viruses that Norman found. None of them caught all of them in one sweep except Norman. Imagine that!   This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />I use a mac so don't need this, but I downloaded it for a friend who was almost at the point of being unable to use his computer due to malware. I ran it once and it was magic it dealt with all but one of his problems. The problem was XP antivirus which it appears is a really bad infection and needs careful handling. I have downloaded another product from Version Tracker to try and deal with this. I would highly recommend Norman Malware Cleaner to any PC user with an infected drive.
