Entech's Monitor Asset Manager lets you monitor your monitors. It queries your PC's displays in real time for raw performance data and specific characteristics such as color and timing. It handles any type of Plug and Play monitor, including multiple monitor installations. Three advantages make Monitor Asset Manager appealing to enterprise users as well as individuals: 1) It queries devices directly instead of relying on potentially inaccurate, changed, or corrupt Registry entries; 2) It runs in Windows NT 4.0 so it can be used to track corporate inventory by serial number; and 3) It's free (for home use; a corporate license is available).

Monitor Asset Manager's user interface won't win many design competitions, but this is an instrument, not a toy, and the plain gray theme and printout-style typefaces are suitable. A sidebar holds the first two of three windows: Display ID listed our monitor and its registry values as well as some sample data; Raw Data is presented in a table. Monitor Asset Manager correctly identified our Samsung LCD monitor, its Model Name and Number, Plug and Play ID, Serial Number, and even its date of manufacture! But that's just for openers. Monitor Asset Manager also displayed stuff like EDID and MCCS revisions, listed numerous supported and unsupported characteristics, provided detailed color and timing data, listed all standard timings supported, and even included the raw data (comma-separated) at the bottom. The sample data covered a range of monitor types and characteristics, including LCD-TV; it proved helpful in understanding our monitor's data. Monitor Asset Manager saves data as BIN, HEX, CSV, MIF, and INF files, depending on the File menu selection. Reports are saved as TXT files. You can open and edit saved files in Monitor Asset Manager, too. Help options include Entech's Web site and a product support forum.

In essence, Monitor Asset Manager simply queries and reports monitor data, but it does so in ways that give it significant advantages over similar tools, whether it's in a home system or a corporate network.

Developer's Description

Monitor Asset Manager is a Plug and Play monitor information utility. It is fully multi-monitor-capable, and unlike similar reporting utilities queries the monitor directly rather than relying on potentially dubious information stored in the registry. In addition to providing detailed information on monitor color and timing characteristics, this compact utility (213kb) is the only program of its type to accomplish this under Windows NT 4.0, providing corporate IS managers with a simple tool to track monitor inventory by serial number.
