  Unfortunately, after having happily tried MailTags 3, I upgraded and purchased MailTags 4. I continued using it very happily until the upgrade to El Capitan at which point Mail became unusable with MailTags 4 installed. Mail becomes a memory sink, slows the computer to a crawl, and crashes frequently and unpredictably. While I enjoyed using Mailtags when it worked for me I cannot now give it a high rating as it's become unusable. My Mail settings did not change when I upgraded my OS X, and the problem is clearly tied to MailTags. Eighteen months later I missed MailTags, because when it worked, it proved really useful. I tried re-installing (Nov 2017) the most recent version (v5), and sadly, the same problem persists on Sierra.

  Summary

  On my setup (Sierra with Mail servicing 4 different email accounts) Mailtags causes Mail to become a memory sink, slows the computer to a crawl, and causes frequent crashes. Approach with caution.

With this simple feature, I can file all my read messages into one folder and create smart folders to keep track of email while having a relatively clean and empty inbox. I also use this tool to create iCal apts from w/in mail when appropriate (it links the email msg to the event). WELL WORTH the price of admission.

  ...easier)<br />This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />I am really confused by some recent comments/reviews about MailTags. I've used both iterations of this program for quite a while now with NO problems of any kind and have benefitted greatly from the organizational capabilities that MailTags adds to Mail, iCal and iGTD. With this program you can set up smart mailboxes that instantly organize important emails (and, BTW, the tags also work in MailSteward) so that you can find invoices, shipping notices, updated email addresses sent to you by business associates, friends and family. You can also easily use MailTags with the other apps mentioned to turn emails into useful and organized To Do's. I never understand why people are so quick to downgrade an app (espeically one with a long history of glowing reviews like MailTags) rather than take the time to figure out what they are doing wrong or not doing right. BTW, I am an intermediate level Mac user with no ties to this or any other software or hardware company.

In th past it caused Mail.app to behave erratically and then to crash. Now, Mail app will run for a while, but MailTags forces Apples's buggiest application to launch at the same time â?? the dreaded iCal, which causes the mail startup process to take what seems like forever. Messing with settings has no effect on this lovely experience. And if you want to have a good laugh, just try using the included MailTags Uninstaller to get rid of this buggy thing. It won't. You are stuck with it no matter how many times you run the Uninstaller and reboot your machine. Nice. Now you have to manually hunt down whatever files this nefarious little bugger installed that are gumming up the works. I'm on a G5 2ghz dual running 10.4.10. Hardly an exotic configuration. Does anyone actually test this thing before distribution?

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />Previously I complained about lack of customer service. Turns out that the emails were sent with my registration codes. For some reason I never got them. But now I do and can start using MailTags again! Since I do Web design for a living, trying to keep track of all the emails I get from people asking me to do things without MailTags would be a nightmare! It is an excellent product that makes my job much easier.

Every time Mail opens, MailTags wants me to register the software. I successfully do so and we run fine until either MailTags crashes Mail or I quit Mail. Then I must re-register and of course lose all my settings. Ironic that this all started going haywire right after I paid for this thing. Would not at all recommend this version.

Some minor glitches with tagging, but Scott (the developer) was quick on the case with a tech support response. Highly recommended. Works in conjunction with their other product, Mail Act-On.

Consequently, we are not supporting the use of MailTags with IMAP messages/Mailboxes. Use MailTags with IMAP message at your own risk.
