  Pros

  I like the fact that their help information simply confirmed what I already knew. The data was gone.

  Cons

  This product lost all of my billing data that I now have to reconstruct. Over $20,000 worth of billing data gone. Stay as far away from this product as possible.

  Summary

  I purchased TimeSlips for about $500 and used it for several years. I found it to be overly complex and more than I needed. Invoices would take a long time to generate, and entering payments equally were a chore. Chaos' Legal Billing has all of the features that I really needed. I can enter my rate by type of matter or by client, or I can manually enter the rate. It has a timer, to keep track of time, and I can set minimum billing increments, such as .1 of an hour. In addition to matter (eg, Jones vs. Smith, ABC Co. Software Licensing Agreement) and description (eg, court time, negotiation, etc), I also can enter specific comments for each timeslip, which I normally do because I want the client to understand exactly what I did. It took me about 10 - 15 minutes to learn to use the product and to print an acceptable invoice. Compare that against TimeSlips, which I used daily for years and never really learned for even simple tasks. I also think this could be used effectively for other professions or consultants that charge hourly for projects.

  Pros

  We have a small office. I have used Quickbooks and PCLaw which have integrated accounting programs. We don't need an accounting program as we have an accountant. We need, and this software is, a pure billing program. It is a small install. I called tech support and got a human right away who helped me. Two years tech support. You can network without a server. It's 10x less than the cheapest big name software. Idiot proof.

  Doesn't have separate accounts (trust vs. general.)
