Only interface flaws keep us from giving this dark-horse DVD player our top recommendation. Hero Super Player 3000's default skin looks a bit patchy, and the alternative one is somewhat out of date. Also, some of the options--Chrominance, for instance--sound intimidating in a program designed for home use. Otherwise we found the player easy to use and packed with features. In addition to basic DVD functionality, it offers surround audio, channel swap, equalization, and zoom control for making out interesting details. It also proved very easy on system resources in our tests. If you can put up with the lackluster interface, Hero Super Player 3000 can definitely compete with the big names.
