Gramps for Linux is a free software project and community. We strive to produce a genealogy program that is both intuitive for hobbyists and feature-complete for professional genealogists.
It is a community project, created, developed, and governed by genealogists. It provides a well designed user interface makes entering data easy. Browser like controls allows you to navigate your family tree with ease, and 11 different views for navigating your family.

What's new in version 5.0
Version 5.0: You can now choose to use alternative database backends. BSDDB is still the default, but Sqlite is now available. For power users, PostgreSql and MongoDB are available as experimental third-party addons. The developers believe that Sqlite may have fewer database corruptions that prevent easy recovery. Options for automatic backup periodically and on exit. The Backup on exit is the default. Config: new database-backup-use-compression option.
