Perfect for my needs!

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />Family seems to have come a very long way since the reviews posted previously here over a year ago, when it was in the "1.0" range, as I had no problems with using any date format I wanted and didn't encounter any bugs. I've found it to be a straightforward genealogy app which let me quickly build a family tree, complete with photos, and share it with family. When the trial period is up, I believe I'll be buying it.

I accidentally dragged a person up off the top of the screen, the line still indicates there an entry up there, but I cannot see it, no matter what I do. When I search, the person is listed, but they are not in the GUI. Would not consider paying US$40 at this time, but as I said, this app has great potential.

Family is far too restrictive in the kinds of data you can enter about people, and far too proscriptive in the ways people can relate to one another. Dragging one person onto another creates a nauseating <heart> icon to indicate a 'relationship' - and there are no preferences so, for example, UK users are forced to enter dates using US formats, even though system-wide preferences are set to use UK formats. Males are automatically coloured blue and females pink and there is no way of changing these stereotypical settings. Clicking zoom family brings up another window which completely hides the main window. Adding a new person is done in the background window, unseen - and the zoomed family window does not update.
