Changing wallpaper automatically is easy with this no-frills freeware tool, but results are marred by a couple of program errors. Desktop Exchange's neat and intuitive interface is easy to navigate. This application primarily changes your wallpaper according to a user-defined time interval. Like other tools in this category, you can easily add your wallpaper-collection folder to enable the application to randomly choose desktop-background images. As you scroll through the list of wallpaper, the utility displays the preview and details of each image when selected. Some of our testers were unable to display image thumbnails with this utility. Other testers found the utility ignored the Actual Size/Stretched option and opened all images as stretched. The search function inexplicably searches Google instead of Google images. This freeware had problems installing on some test systems, but every level user will find it adds a little surprise each time the desktop wallpaper changes.
It does what it says: changes the desktop background at intervals I can specify. You can set the pictures to random if you want to. Though I haven't tried this feature yet, it sounds pretty cool to be able to store all my backgrounds in one folder and then just selecting that folder in the program. For freeware, it's pretty nifty!
Cons
1. When I log on to my computer, the wallpaper management screen shows up, forcing me to adjust the settings. (None of the wallpapers are lost, you just have to respecify the times you want them to change.) It's not that big a deal, but it would be nice if I didn't have to recheck those boxes every time I turn on my computer.
2. BUG: If the program labels a picture "invalid" the program will close. You'll have to remove the pictures one by one until you get to the invalid one.
3. There are no options like stretch, center, or tile. It's best to have the pictures you want already set to fit your screen resolution. (Use Photoshop or the free GIMP to do that.)
3. When I logged on to my guest account on my computer, the program ran and started looking for the pictures I had saved to my regular account. It would be better if you could specify which accounts run this program. I wouldn't recommend using this program if you have different accounts on your computer, unless you save the pictures you want the program to use in a folder that all users have access to.
