This simple freeware application effectively encrypts and decrypts files, but the basic feature set is primarily aimed at casual users. Deccan Encryptor/Decryptor is a small executable that offers a bare-bones interface with standard buttons for selection, encryption, and decryption of files. We found encryption and decryption worked quickly compared with similar applications. The program can't encrypt the entire contents of a folder in a single pass. Users are forced to operate on a single file at a time. Unfortunately, it replaces the original file on encryption. A problem during encryption could cause the user to lose access to the unencrypted file. However, by not replacing the file extension the program helps hide which files are encrypted. The single encryption algorithm isn't easily hackable, but we wish the program offered stronger encryption as an option. Sharing encrypted files is not a problem as the program is small enough to easily send to any recipient. Overall, Deccan Encryptor/Decryptor's simple encryption method isn't suitable for protecting highly confidential files, but will suffice for home and casual users.

Deccan is a simple encryption program that is designed for use to keep your files from being seen by others. It uses a simple algorithm to encrypt files, so that if others attempt to open your file, they see garbage. When you want to view or make changes to your file, you can use Deccan to decrypt your files to their original form. Password protection ensures that only you can decrypt your files. This program works well with any type of file: video, pictures, music, or text.
