Quickly gather and display information about DVD drives and discs with this helpful freeware. DVDInfo's crowded interface is packed with data about scanned DVD drives. The program's Help file is well-written in an informal, but educational tone. Novice users would greatly benefit by reading the file, but most functions are self-explanatory.

On start, DVDInfo displays extensive hardware feature information about the default DVD drive. If the system has additional drives, it takes a pull-down menu click to access their information. The majority of the information won't concern casual users, but system administrators will appreciate the accurate and easily saved data. The utility offers quick methods to save DVD drive feature data in text or graphic files, although our testers reported occasional problems with the copy text to clipboard function. In addition to hardware feature information, the program performs various tests on drives and media. Each test is quick and implemented with only a click or two. We especially appreciated the quick media CRC read error test. An unexpected feature creates an ISO image from a loaded disc.

DVDInfo is ad-supported freeware that must be upgraded every 90 days. Otherwise, this version has no limitations. System administrators, and advanced users looking for drive tests and tools will find this utility a go-to toolbox application.

Total waste of time and effort. Installed OK, but locked Windows every time I ran it and it attemtped to analyze discs; task manager couldn't close it, so was forced to do hard reset.

Brilliantly designed and executed multifaceted tool for learning about your system and any media. I would give it 5 stars were it not so deceptively packaged.
Cons
QUIT SAYING IT IS FREE! Dvdinfopro expires after 14 days and can only be used then after purchasing a key.
Summary

Info derived from reading installed hardware is interesting.
Cons
Tried to check hard drive and it went beyond 100% check and kept on with negative result analysis so I just stopped it.
Summary
I think the author should check the program against a variety oof hardware that it is supposed to analyze and then fix the program.
This product fails at EVERY level!

The only Pro I could find was that the bits that worked, are fine--but there are so many bits that don't it is impossible to be confident in any part of the application.

1. As has been mentioned, it is NOT free. It is shareware or stupidware (sorry, that's what I think of any system that says Don't pay for the program you want, rather pay for a program you don't want, just to get the one you want for free. Duh?) 2. Their report shows that my optical drive will write nothing except DVD-RW .. totally erroneous! 3. And the BIGGIE .. do a Google search for DVDInfo Pro, and you reach a page that lets you buy it several ways..including stupidware..but no way to contact the developers. Perhaps when you pay for it they give you a contact address, but if not...you are stuck! Even if this were a reasonably good product I would recommend avoiding it..but it is rubbish..Try it for yourself..but think twice (thrice) before opening your wallet.

I find it most useful that I can test a blank media disk for quality and avg. speed; and that I can test my drives for quality and speed. Other information provided, like the manufacturer (which may not necessarily be the brander) of media and drives, I can get from other media programs that I use. So dvdinfopro puts this information and tools in one place. The user interface is nice and techie. The program is free for 14 days; then you must activate. License costs $29.95USD. Give it a test drive, you'll probably like it; then you must decide if the value to you is greater than or equal to the price.
This program is NOT FREE. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME.

Good software, does what it says up until THE TRIAL PERIOD RUNS OUT.
Cons
Cnet should clarify that this program IS NOT FREE and you NEED TO BUY THIS PROGRAM AFTER THE TRIAL PERIOD.

I like the review that the editor gave, too bad it didn't work at all on my pc.
Cons
When the program opened, it just sits there and does nothing. After about 10 minutes it may start up. During that time you can't end the process or do anything with it. I had it actually load up once and it looked good, until it locked up once again after switching to see the info on my second drive. This program may work for some others. Good luck.
