• Very Basic Viewer

  Opens the file.

  Viewer only - have to open each file individually.

  Summary

  As with most free downloads now, you have to get through the "lets dump other stuff on your computer" adverts before you get to the actual download. The webpage it wants to go to after finishing was blocked by my security software, so there may be more auto-dump going on there. But the software works.

  No redeeming value

  Cons

  Not only did the program not work (I was trying to open CAT scan and MRI images from a CD), it installed 16 malware programs on my computer (Thanks to Malwarebytes for helping with cleanup). I thought it would be safe to download since it was on CNET. I was sorely mistaken! I found a program called Microdicom that is free, works well and doesn't have spyware.

  Pros

  The download does NOT contain any crap, the only thing it does is displaying a square banner on the right of the program window. The software itself is not feature rich but it is still ok for just viewing DCM files.

  Cons

  No tools for selection/editing, layer image export etc.

  This tried to change my default search engine and install a toolbar in my browser. Thus it's crapware.

  Summary

  Don't install this: it's toolbar-installing, search engine-hijacking software. Maybe it works, maybe not, but its reason for existence is not viewing MRI files.
