Editors' Review

This audio-editing software does exactly what it's billed to do, but its narrow scope doesn't exactly earn it big points in our book. Cool MP3 Splitter Joiner lets you take a pair of scissors to MP3 and WAV audio files, so to speak--you can "cut" or split larger files into smaller ones while maintaining the same audio quality as the original files. Once you've cut, you can convert files to either format. During testing, we were surprised to find the program doesn't perform well under Windows 2000, but it was a rock star with Windows XP. The interface is fairly basic and easy to use. We were doubly annoyed, however, at the trial restrictions. You can launch the program only four times before it requires you to register the application. Overall, this is a straightforward audio editor that, though it works well, doesn't stand up to other competitors in terms of features or flexibility.
