It doesn't let you do that for too long - this release (1.11 carbon LOD patch) crashes during gameplay consistently under OS X 10.3.9 and 10.4.2. Blizzard will probably patch the patch soon though, and 1.10b is still pretty solid.

Amazing how an old game can be still fun :).
