this is an update, no change in features.
Cons
should be offered by Windows Update. Try loading it from Windows Update first. I don't know why it is not proposed automatically by Microsoft (possibly the driver lacks some information data for the WU site itself)

The description of this download lacks some information allowing users to find it easily for an easy update, notably because it has not been published by Realtek on its own website but on the Microsoft WindowsUpdate website (however, for strange reasons, Wnidows Update does not detect or propose it always, despite it contains fixes needed for Vista). See here is the info (that I hope Google will index on this page: Driver Update Name : C-Media AC97 Audio Device Manufacturer : Realtek Date : March 25, 2008 Version : 6.0.1.6285 Here the download is a ZIP archive containing a folder named "6285_Vista_APO\" and that contains all the installation files for Vista (32-bit and 64-bit) : the driverfile itself (RTKVAC.sys), the control panel for the RealTek Sound Manager as a control panel extension (ALSndMgr.cpl) with its standalone applications (RTLCPL.exe SoundMan.exe), management shared DLLs (RtkAPO.dll, RtkPgExt.dll) and its common API RtlCPAPI.dll), a test audio file used by the control panel (ALSNDMGR.WAV) plus its driver installer files (alcrmv.exe, and a set of 33 driver settings files (Alcxau.inf, Alcxcau0.inf, ..., Alcxcau31.inf) for various models of AC-97 audio devices made by Realtek or integreted by OEMs on their motherboards , and finally two catalgue digital signature files for securing the audio driver itself ( Alcxwdm*.cat): all these files are present in the two subdirectories "Vista" (32) and "'Vista64" The main directory in the zip archive contains the installer enfine, and tools for autodetecting which devices are present in the PC and which driver settings to use for those devices. Because these drivers have passed the WDM test by Microsoft, they could be signed by both the manufacturer and by Microsoft for inclusion on Windows Update (so the drivers are installable automatically).
