• Takes practice, but totally awesome

  Pros

  3dvia Shape, if your specs are up to date, can be an awesome software for the beginners and the advanced to create a 3d model. In summary, it works by drawing 2d shapes and pulling them up in a direction to make it 3d (e.g. you could make a house by drawing a square and pulling it up to make a cube, then drawing a triangle and pulling it to make a roof). It also has many more options to use as well. It does not come with any toolbars or viruses included.

  Cons

  There are two main problems with Shape. First, you need a fast computer to use it, because it is a bit of a memory hog and often crashes. Luckily it autosaves so you shouldn't lose too much. The other problem is that 3dvia Shape requires an account at 3dvia.com . This can be done quickly but can be a pain if you just want to quickly try it out. Offline saving is possible, but the files are encrypted, forcing you to publish them online to download them in any useful format.

  Summary

  3dvia Shape can save models in two formats - 3dxml and DAE, the latter of which is far more useful, as it can be imported into Sketchup, Blender, Google Earth etc. For a while, downloading DAE required the Pro version, but it is now once again free and can be downloaded after publishing the model to 3dvia.com . To do this, go to the Publish menu from within the software, and it will appear on your account at the site. In the end it is a really powerful software and both the problems are small and could be easily fixed in the next version.

  I like what the program should do. But if you read the EULA... you are wasting your time for their benefit. You are not allowed to store your project on your own machine.

• Fantastic 3D software for beginners; free and easy to use

  Pros

  Free and easy to download<p>Very simple and easy to get started thanks to a short tutorial<p>Quite versatile, allowing you to pretty much make what you like although I'm still getting used to it (only used for a few hours so far)<p>Textures and rendering are fantastic<p>Runs very smoothly<p>If you exit and select 'publish later', it automatically saves and you can go back to where you were next time you use the program very easily<p>'Undo' and 'Redo'; very useful. I used a program a couple of years back which didn't have these, and it was very annoying. As many mistakes as you like with this though!

  Cons

  I suppose it is a little slow to start up, and also it would be nice to have 'construction line' and 'change length' tools, as well as night view, but these are luxuries.<p>There are honestly no serious problems for me so far.
