Editors' Review
16-Bit Game Quiz SNES Edition pits your knowledge of classic SNES games against ten levels of screenshots matching iconic games of the '90s. The app's interface and theme will remind you of an SNES game in their own right, and while the app lacks a lot of depth beyond the trivia quizzes, it will be a lot of fun for classic game lovers.
Pros
Very thematic: The app is extremely thematic, using 16-bit style art and pixel-fonts to display the quizzes and test your knowledge. The result is a lot of fun just to look at, and with so many different screenshots to dig through and so many screens to explore, it's a nostalgic joy.
Plenty of quizzes: Each level has 20 different games to test yourself against, and there are ten levels overall, so you can quiz your way through 200+ games across the history of the SNES platform. With some games more obscure than others, it will be fun to see just how many you have played.
Cons
Relatively shallow experience: The quiz aspect of the game can grow old when the nostalgia starts to stretch thin. There are no alternate game modes, no hidden image tests, no actual trivia, or anything else to extend the allure of this game. It's pure nostalgia from start to finish.
Clunky answer interface: The interface for entering answers can be clunky, requiring careful pecking of the screen to hit the narrow keyboard. Combined with the open entry system and the star-based hint system that costs money to utilize (and can be quite costly if you want help with tough questions), the app can grow frustrating.
Bottom Line
If you played a lot of 16-bit games in the heyday of the SNES gaming console, then this app will be a lot of fun for you. If you didn't or are not a fan of video games in general, there is very little here for you. It can be frustrating due to the interface, but even still, if you enjoyed classics like Final Fantasy III or Earthworm Jim, this is a fun diversion.
