uTorrent for Mac is a basic, free, and fast BitTorrent client that makes it easy for you to download torrent files. It's a bit thin on features, but it's lightweight and lets you download files hassle-free.

Pros

Fast and reliable: uTorrent for Mac downloads files much more quickly than other peer-to-peer file sharing applications that we have used in the past, such as the now-defunct Limewire, without limiting our ability to use our Internet connection with other applications. It's a bit stripped down in features compared to other popular clients such as Vuze (Azureus), but if ease of use is all you need, you won't mind this.

Automated bandwidth adjusting: This application has been programmed to auto-adjust the amount of bandwidth it uses. You can also manually set limits for bandwidth used for uploading and downloading files.

Helpful resources: This program features an intuitive yet basic OS X-style interface, so you won't have trouble finding your way. However, if you are unfamiliar with the BitTorrent protocol and how torrent files work, don't distress -- the uTorrent Web site offers very helpful guides, including a wonderfully clear and informative video that will help get you started.

Cons

Cannot search torrents: While it will facilitate the sharing and downloading of torrent files, this program doesn't actually have an integrated search. It does include a search box, which takes you to your Web browser to find the files you want to download.

Beware of malware: While installing uTorrent, we were first prompted to agree to let the application change our default home pages on all our Web browsers and to allow the tracking of our browsing history. After clicking that we disagreed, we were redirected to the actual uTorrent license agreement.

Bottom Line

If you're looking for a BitTorrent client that offers a quick and easy way to download torrent files, then you'll definitely love uTorrent for Mac. This program lacks advanced searching capabilities and some features found in other similar programs, but this shouldn't be a problem for you if you just need a fast and reliable client.

"Please don't include malwares in the installation file."

January 30, 2014  |  By Twist3r

 |  Version: uTorrent 1.8.4.29978

Pros

No need to configure, so its easy to use. Performance is excellent. Light use of resources ensures that the download process is smooth. Torrents can be found through the search option. Constantly awestruck because of its size. Its mere kb's and yet helps download gigabytes of data.

Cons

Malwares/spywares/browser hijackers found. Not a good move. Please keep it clean.

Summary

P2P file sharing is defined by utorrent. Universally accepted, it continues to dazzle even after all these years. Highly recommended for noobs & experts alike.

"Good but search bar add-on diverts searches to yahoo"

November 30, 2013  |  By bugbear77

 |  Version: uTorrent 1.8.4.29978

Pros

Easy to use down load system

Cons

Spammy search bar addon that adds yahoo to your browser

Summary

Good but need to stop with the spammy add-ons. Maybe just a few adverts instead to give them the money they need?

"I tried other torrent apps but this one is the best"

October 10, 2011  |  By BertTerpstra

 |  Version: uTorrent 1.5.10

Pros

uTorrent tries to get the least available parts of a file first. This saves you from the disappointment of an incomplete download if only part of the file is actually available. Uploading goes much faster than with other torrent apps I tried, so it takes less time to upload enough to balance the giving and taking. uTorrent seems to make more efficient use of bandwidth and CPU than some other torrent programs I tried. I was used to notice diminished responsiveness in the browser when I was downloading. With uTorrent this is not the case.

Cons

If you want to search torrents with your torrent programme then you need another app.

Summary

uTorrent does not have the slick the look of more professionally developed torrent programmes. And it also is not a program that offers many bells and whistles. But it is very good in the core functionality for which is was made: downloading and uploading files using the bittorrent protocol. I actually prefer to use my browser to visit torrent websites and to download the torrents from there. Then I can read more information about the torrents I select, then is possible using the searching facility in some torrent apps. So I do not need searching capabilities in my torrent program. uTorrent get much sooner involved in uploading a file that is being downloaded, than I have seen in other torrent apps. Pretty soon the upload speed exceeds the download speed (I have a symmetrical connection) and so it is very easy to compensate the downloading with sufficient uploading: by the time the download is complete, the amount uploaded often is already more than the amount that was downloaded. This is good and necessary for the torrentnet to complete the distribution of a file to all who want it. The more I use uTorrent, the more I am pleasantly surprised at how well it does what it is made for. Recommended.

"Easy to Use But Flawed"

June 24, 2011  |  By mojo-a-gogo

 |  Version: uTorrent 1.5.2

Pros

Easy to use interface.

Cons

Transmission refused to download a torrent it said was invalid, so I tried uTorrent as a test. I was happy when it started and DL'd all 520MB. Unfortunately it was a bad file after all, and the DL was empty.

Transmission is also faster.

Summary

Transmission is better and at least as easy to use.
