Glad I found Movist, excellent tool to watch videos that otherwise are not possible to see on Mac.
Never tried Flip4Mac, but this one works like magic, opens right away when you click on a attachment to watch. Highly recommend -

Pros
compared to mplayer and vlc player, i find this to be a lot better running on my mac. I have a os x 10.4 ppc. especially with the FFmpeg codec you can't go wrong.
Cons
no complaints from me.
