  Full features word editor. It's free and an excellent application. Highly recommended. I use it on both Mac and Windows platforms.

  Pros

  I had to switch to NeoOffice awhile back, but the last few releases of LibreOffice are just fine. I hope they continue to be stable and dependable.

  Cons

  Chunky file size. I mostly use this for WP. Would be nice if that were a stand alone.

  Summary

  Try it! It's good enough unless you absolutely need MS Office for something it won't do.

  LibreOffice was able to convert my AppleWorks drawing software and Office 2004 templates for use in Mavericks 10.9.2. Handles PDF files that Preview cannot

  Pros

  * new startcenter looks so much better and adds efficientcy and functionality * the Sifr icon set (activate it under LibreOffice > Preferences > LibreOffice > View > Iconstyle) makes for a much improved modern appearance and does away with the outdated old icons we're all so tired of seeing

  Pros

  Will paste web copy nearly like original, whereas Pages alters format requiring numerous changes to become intelligible.

  Cons

  ANY action taken (save, print edit, etc.) takes 30 t0 60 seconds to complete.

  Summary

  If you prefer what Libre Text can do, and don't mind the lag, I recommend it.

  Pros

  Above all, it's 100% free. It can save and open in Microsoft Office file formats. In many ways, I like it better than Microsoft Office. Some things, such as borders on tables, may take a little getting used to though. LibreOffice, not OpenOffice, often comes preinstalled on Linux systems such as Ubuntu.

  Cons

  The spreadsheet application crashes frequently, although that may have been resolved in the lastest update.

  Pros

  This is great software, very usable and reliable. But cnet still has not fixed the missing LO icon for the LO mac software entry. Is it that hard? This was first reported on 11th feb 2013. 3 month later and nothing has happened. That is of course not LOs fault but CNETs.

  Cons

  nothing really. You are using a opensource office suite using a free file format.
