Editors' Review

iPhone Backup Extractor extracts iTunes or iCloud files from both your iPhone and iPad devices, which is helpful in case of lost or deleted files.

Extraction options: iPhone Backup Extractor offers a variety of extraction options for your device content. For example, you can extract contacts as vCards or as CSV files. SMS files can be extracted as HTML or CSV files.

Quick extraction: We found the extraction process very swift -- just seconds.

Requires a little technical know-how: While you don't have to be an expert, you will need to be comfortable handling CSV and HTML file formats, among others.

Difficult to navigate: With only four menu options and three tabs, iPhone Backup Extractor seems pretty streamlined. But after digging into it a bit, we found it vague and clunky. We paid a visit to the online Help page, hoping to find a guide to get us started, but it only offered a general overview. We eventually stumbled our way through extracting files to our designated folders.

Fails to immediately recognize device: We first opened the program and then plugged in our iPhone, expecting the program to recognize the device. We had to unplug and replug our device a few times, and, even then, the Backup Details overview didn't display our device type or the correct time.

Bottom Line

Technophiles will probably be more forgiving of iPhone Backup Extractor's cumbersome navigation and more appreciative of its extraction abilities. If you're looking for easier navigation and file extraction, you should look elsewhere.

Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of iPhone Backup Extractor 5.3.18.

"Great product - Awesome customer service!"

After turning my phone into a paperweight with an unintended swim, my thoughts turned to data recovery. I was loathe to invest, having been very slack in the backup department, so I queried customer service. Quick as a flash, Andrei responds and assures me that I can try it, and get a refund if I don't find the data that I'm looking for. Sadly, that turned out to be the case but as promised, Diana had my refund processed within 24 hours. All with good humour, commiseration, and nary a suggestion (well deserved) that I'm a *******. You don't see service like that every day!

Absolutely none.

"Exactly What I Was Looking For!!!"

This application works great and the user interface is rather intuitive. I was able to view the data before I extracted and even better I was able to select the specific data I wanted to have extracted. You certainly have a lot of control over what you would like to have extracted before you even execute the process.

You even have the ability to view some the data stored within other applications not mentioned on the website. For example you may have had some favorite settings configured within an application. Once you extract the info, you will have to parse through the information files but that data is there for you to retrieve and renter into the IOS device if necessary.

All in all I was able to restore all the important data and media files I needed which has made me one happy customer!

There are really no Cons to mention other than possible future enhancements to the application. For exampled recovering Notes could be made much easier if there was some way of automatically extracting them back to the IOS device as opposed to extracting them to HTML first. Right now you need a little finesse to get the data back into the device but the main thing is your Notes are recoverable. Secondly I would also like to see the Home version support encrypted backups. Other than that, the application is great and would be even better with the above mentioned enhancements.

I worked with Bobby from the support team using online chat. The support and information I received was amazing and combined with the trial version it helped me make my decision to purchase the application. If you are trying to recover Contacts, Calendar items, Notes, SMS, Photos, Videos and Recording then this is the application for you.

I was able to retrieve valuable lost data.
With my case, this was much less expensive than the alternative.

Some support may be required.
No downside with my experience.

I forgot my iPhone "Restrictions Pin". After much research, I purchased a license and downloaded the App to my windows based PC. Using an iTunes backup of my iPhone and Backup Extractor, I was able to recover my forgotten four digit pen. I found their on-line support to be excellent as well.

If you are an IT Guy whose company supports iPhones for your employees, I highly recommend this support...
