If you generally skip to the back of a review to read the results, we'll save you the trouble and state up front that aTube Catcher is the YouTube downloader to get. Not just because it's one of the few free and non-ad-supported tools of its kind, though that ought to be enough because it means it's not ad-linked and can download videos from lots of other Web sites, too, including Google, Dailymotion, Yahoo, Comedy Central, Spike, and many others. But aTube Catcher is actually a video toolkit packing many free tools such as DVD/Blu-Ray/CD Creator, DA DVD Ripper, Video & Audio Crop Tool, Queue Manager, Screen Record, Audio Recorder, and others. Some are built in while others require free downloads but integrate fully with aTube Catcher. This program also creates animated GIFs, Audio CDs, ringtones, and MP3s. It captures video streams, converts and merges videos, and erases rewriteable disks, too.
Neat, clean, and compact sums up aTube Catcher's dialog-size user interface, which opens on the Normal mode tab. This is the program's main tool, its video downloader. It's a lot like the others, with some notable (and welcome) exceptions, such as the Enable YouTube HD check box. Better yet, an Output Profile drop-down list offers dozens of different devices and formats, everything from AVI to Zune. It also offers No Conversion, NTSC and PAL TV formats, animated GIF, HD, and lots of other interesting choices. The other tabs access the program's other capable, no-nonsense tools: Stream Catcher, Screen Record, Video Converter, and more. As if that weren't enough, clicking the Tools menu revealed still more utilities as well as the General Settings, Cache, Language, and YouTube options. Add a Video Search Tool and MP3 Downloader to the tool list, incidentally.
Does it seem like aTube Catcher offers a bit too much? Nonsense! Just click Help on the toolbar. This program has one of the longest Help menus we've seen, including the Web-based Manual that opened as soon as our installation completed, as well as links to download codecs, WinpCap, and an Encoder Version. If you skipped to the end, we'll say it again: just get it.

actually does what you want quite easily

doesn't let you record at 48khz wav
installs loads of extra nonsense, chrome extensions, some weird game software and that's just the stuff I've found. This is when I did the custom install and deselected all the extra optional stuff i could.
This is the kind of software that means you'll need to reinstall your OS in 6 months if you keep installing software from here.Summary

Just got it, downloaded on flv file from youtube, did the drag from the file to the program, cut a DVD just like that, worked just fine. If everything else in the package works that well, there's hardly anything it can't do, a MUST have.
Cons
The guy above says it installs the Ask toolbar and homepage, etc, even if you choose not to. I didn't have that problem, but at first the install kept graying out the 2nd option to uncheck it, that was toolbar install I think. So, I was about to dump the install, but then it suddenly let me uncheck both boxes and didn't install the Ask stuff, so I'm quite happy, but watch the install.
Summary
I use IDM for youtube download, but to convert and cut a VCD or DVD is a real pain. This program is the way to go, easy peasy and does just about everything. For fancy DVD options, you have to use something else.

Works better than any other download software I have every used. I have tried about 6 different ones from Cnet.ocm.
Cons
Be careful, I scanned my computer with Malwarebytes right after I installed this software and it found something called rogue.link software that came with aTube Catcher. I let Malwarebytes uninstall the rogue.link software and everything work well from that point on.
Summary
Very good software but watch out for the harmful software that may come with it if you're not careful. Make sure to do a Malwarebytes full scan immediately after you install it.

You can download it to pretty much any file format you want.
Even HD videos.

The program does work as long as you keep it up to date.

I think this program contains spyware. After a while of having this on my computer, whenever I was typing in a text box, something would quickly pop up on my computer then disappear, which was a pain because it interrupted what I was typing. When I uninstalled this program and restarted my computer, the problem went away.
That actually happened twice. The first time it happened, Avast located the source of the problem was one of the programs related to this one (YouTube Downloader, I think) but I had both aTube and Downloader on this computer. The second time around, I only had aTube Catcher.Summary
I personally wouldn't recommend it because of the spyware.

I really can't say. I've been working with PC software for 20 years and I can't get the screen audio/video recording to work.

I couldn't get Profiles to save and reload. When trying to do a screen capture, the target area would decrease resolution and I lost part of the window's view.
When I attempted the standard uninstall from the Control Panel, the program was deleted from the list but it was not uninstalled. I could still run it from the program's folder. Also, when I used the uninstall in the program's folder, it would hang the system until I closed the WINDOWS Explorer window.Summary
BE CAREFUL ! Oh, and as for the additional "stuff" installed, if you read the installation instructions carefully, you can avoid them.
