Zero Assumption Recovery is a comprehensive read-only data recovery solution - ZAR tools extract data from the damaged HDD to another medium (typically an additional HDD), leaving the original disk intact. Working from within Windows, ZAR can recover FAT16/32 and NTFS (including NTFS5) volumes. ZAR supports long and/or national file names and NTFS compression. Typical recoverable damage profiles include volumes accidentally formatted, corrupted by a virus or ill-behaved software, due to power failure or as a side effect of overclocking and so on.

It just works!

It works where others failed -- as others have said! It also maintains the original names & the files open right up. Also, the free version seems to let you choose up to 20 gigs of data or 3 folders at a time --- and it lets you start again with no limit. Other software limited me to 1 gig & 2 restarts. So, in 5 sessions = 4 hours, I was able to recover all my lost data -- for free. I think I will buy this software next time so I can get it all back in one shot. I'm so pleased with it.
Cons
That it did not have a statement telling me how far the free version would go . I had to experiment with what it would allow me. But, I again, I am so pleased that it works.

Summary
JPEG files from a digital camera SD card were visible on the camera but when transferred to PC these were unreadable due to files being corrupted. I tries/downloaded at least 7 other programs unsuccessfully, (one i have to pay for). ZAR recovery was FREE and worked instantly , recovering over 600 files which opened in their full resolution and without issues. This is the kind of software I would recommend to everyone that need to recover data. Thank you for helping recover our precious memories! wait...did i mention that is was FREE???!! (for imaging files). Cheers.

I was trying to recover data from my corrupted/damaged micro SD card. The program started to work but after 1 second the data transfer rate went down to zero and the program did nothing. I had tried disabling my antivirus. In the end I used the good old command prompt to fix my card...

Summary
Stumbled upn this in internet search. Tried free version on sample data and then purchased keys.Used on Seagate USB 2.0 Portable drive 500GB capacity with 158GB data (mainly videos and pictures) along with HP110 mini 3738TU. Using for the first time. ZAR is just simple and easy to put in to use. Then it progressed smoothly to compele the drive in 12 hrs time. Retrived data transfer took another 17 hrs. In all it accomplished the job very professionally with gruelling perfection. Also retrived 4GB deleted data. I am very happy about this and all this me, a firt time user.

Summary
When an SD corrupted in the office, this program saved me. It was able to retrieve all but perhaps 5 photos out of hundreds that were on the card.

takes a long time to transfer from recovered folders to another destination (took me about 12 hrs for 550 gigs) This is probably normal but it is still a long time.
Summary
I purchased ZAR in desperation after having purchased Stellar Phoenix only to find out that the supplied keys didn't work. This worked straight away and when I finally got the keys to work on Stellar, I found that ZAR recovered much more data. I am very happy with this product and have used it on a hdd that I accidentally formatted, a hdd that became corrupt due to a virus and a hdd that somehow lost its registry. 100% success in every case.

Got pictures and videos off of my corrupted SD card. I tried three other programs and this is the only one that worked! Recovered everything in a matter of minutes.
Cons
A little confusing to use. Had to go on their website.
Summary
Excellent job. Worked on removable memory, unlike the other, more popular programs I tried to use.

My SD card got corrupted, and after trying a few other programs and googling numerous posts of people saying that there was basically no solution besides formatting, this one actually did the trick. I used the free demo version and it allowed me to recover the files I needed from my card with absolutely no problem - sure, it took a long time, but that's the price you pay for being thorough. Would be willing to pay for this product if a card gets corrupted again in the future.

The GUI has promise but the workflow needs thought. If I take 4 hours to surface scan a disk and 'save' the result, I should be able to 'load' that result back rather than re-scanning.
Cons
Takes hours to scan, says it finds files, and takes hours to 'recover' them. Each and every file is corrupt garbage - not the file it says it 'recovered'.
Summary
Worthless app. The 'trial' lets you scan but not recover. I scanned an NTFS drive to recover lost files and it said it found them, but of course I had to purchase to recover. So I did and it 'recovered' garbage. I've since tried it on multiple drives and its a dismal failure every time. It DOES NOT WORK. As a forensic engineer, I was able to successfully recover every file but NOT using this tool. I wanted something simple but this tool is not it! The data was there and recoverable, but this software is a total waste of time and I feel scammed. Don't waste your money. Its a shame there is no zero-stars option.
