CNET Editors' review
The idea behind Yep is simple: iPhoto helps you with your pictures and iTunes handles your music--but what do you use to work with your PDFs? Yep is a dedicated document manager, almost a "specialized Finder" just for PDFs. Don't have a lot of PDFs? If you're really ambitious, Yep also gives you the tools to scan and then manage all of your paper documents--moving you out of folders and filing cabinets in the same way that iPhoto gets your pictures out of shoeboxes.
Yep can handle tens of thousands of files, giving you very flexible and intuitive tagging tools (the "Yep Tag Cloud") that help you sort, view, organize, and archive your documents. You can also use Yep to convert documents in other formats (like Word files) into PDFs--and Yep doesn't duplicate or move your files, nor does it lock you into using Yep in the future with some proprietary format. Recent updates have added a lot of small refinements that make tagging, scanning, and filing PDFs even easier and more reliable.
Publisher's Description
From Ironic Software:
Start Yep for the first time and it automatically shows you all your PDFs, iWork and Office documents. The strength in Yep is being able to see your documents and search through them with out needing to worry where exactly you saved it to. Add your own tags to documents - which is like storing them in two places at once. Yep also has the ability to automatically file documents into a simple date based folder system located in your Documents folder. The result is that its easy to keep a running track record of receipts, invoices, research papers - without having to think about where to store it.
What's new in this version: Fixed a problem where in rare cases recently moved scans would show in the wrong location.
Fixed a problem where the folder column could show the wrong selection.

"YEP WENT BACKWARDS WITH VERSION 2!"
Version: Yep 2.1
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I used Yep Version 1 quite frequently. I upgraded to Version 2 and had to stop with it.
It no longer accepts metadata from the Preview Inspector.
I cannot add applications to the Yep "Open With' menu. I use DevonThink Office Pro, for instance, but could not add that application into the "Open With' menu. Yep has not been intuitive enough to add the application either. Each time I wanted to use DevonThink Office Pro (frequently), I had to select "Open With' from the contextual menu, click 'Other,' find DevonThink Office Pro in the Applications List, then select it. Further, there are three entries for each application in the 'Open With' menu although my Yep 'Managed Locations' contain no locations outside the main drive.
TAGGING is WAY TOO CUMBERSOME - adding all those underlines!
The interface is a mess. It's not easy figuring out what to do with it and the interface is so ugly I no longer really desire figuring it out!
The documentation for using the application is lacking for Yep Version 2's intricacies. I can't spare the time to figure out how to use the application all over again without detailed assistance.
Yep Version 1 seemed so promising, instead the application has become shambolic and monumentally unsightly! I think Yep could have been so much better! I now need a new document manager. Too bad I actually paid for Version 2!

"No Thanks"
Version: Yep 2.1
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I tried v2.1 and I'll stay with v1.8 which works great, tags easily and has a better UI. The whole "upgrade" to 2.x has not been a good one. I have used v1.x for over 5 years to keep track of my receipts and financial records. A wonderful program. It works with Snow Leopard and is one of the better programs I've ever purchased for my iMac. -
"STEP BACKWARDS!"
Version: Yep 2.0.7
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
So far, Yep Version 2.xx seems a step backwards and a great big disappointment. It is now monumentally less easy to get tags into Yep! The functionality to automatically have tags or keywords from Preview Inspector inserted into Yep has been removed.
I use Yep far less and am looking for something else. YES, there were some new features added, such as the ability to include formats other than PDF, but Yep tagging is now a mess - having to insert an underline ("_") between each word of a multi-word tag.
Without the Preview Inspector automation of tags to Yep, tagging in Yep 2.xx takes too much effort!
I agree with a reviewer below that Yep's colours are dreadful.
It appears this vendor has upgraded a viable application into a hellish mess! -
"Good for organizing a lot of PDF FILES"
Version: Yep 2.0.4
Pros
You can easily view front pages, search for files, and organize PDFs
Cons
Depends on how you organize folders for all your pdfs, iPhoto or iTunes are more flexible in the way they set up organizing options.
Summary
If you have a lot of PDF files, this makes searches, and reading much easier than using the Finder and Spotlight.

"Yep 2.0 lacks some features of Yep 1.8"
Version: Yep 2.0
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I've used Yep 1.8 and its predecessors for quite a while. However, I'm not yet using Yep 2.0.
While Yep 2.0 is an upgrade in many respects, its GUI lacks a way to set the a date for "original document created." It's rather mystifying that this function, which had a prominent location in the user interface of Yep 1.x, is gone from Yep 2.0.
Instead of treating the document creation date as a piece of editable metadata, Yep 2.0 has decided to use the Mac OS file creation date. This makes Yep 2.0 much less useful than its previous versions to manage documents that have associated dates (and there are many such documents, for example: collections of academic papers, legal documents, bills, bank statements, correspondenceâ?¦).
Although I would recommend Yep 1.8, I would not recommend Yep 2.0 for this reason. The new interface looks gorgeous and polishedâ??but the fundamental function is simply not yet all there. -
"Great program / Great support"
Version: Yep 2.0.0b7
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This program works extremely well scanning and categorizing documents. When adding tags, it gives suggestions based on the document and narrows the search as you type. That really helps to guard against having similar but multiple tags for the same thing. When searching for a document, using the visible tags or searching for a typed string really makes finding that one document easy. Version 2 just builds on what was already a great product making document management not only easy but enjoyable. I'm still learning and discovering the new useful features that have been added. The author is great about answering any questions even though it was me who should have just RTFM. -

"Excellent"
Version: Yep 1.7.8
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Have been using Yep! for a while, replacing Paperport for document management (when I moved over to the MAC-side from a PC), specifically *.pdf's that track workflow of customer PO's, vendor acknowledgements, and invoices. Could not be any easier than this. The flexibility in the viewer and integration make it considerably simpler than Paperport (which only works on Windows) and at a FRACTION of the cost. Any questions I've had were answered personally and promptly by the staff. -
"I had to buy this"
Version: Yep 1.7.6
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I had not planned on it but when I tried this application, I was so impressed with its utility and the concept the programmers came up with for working with PDF files that I recognized this as being one of those "must have" applications. I can not think of any other application that works with sorting, finding and maintaining an extensive collection of PDF files as well as Yep does. Kudos to the developers.
Though the price is a little high (maybe), this is done so well that I can not foresee using any other application to do what Yep does. -
"Got to Have Yep"
Version: Yep 1.7.5
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I started using Yep and really didn't like it. I changed my mind when I started using it with my ScanSnap scanner. The ScanSnap is the best scanner for archiving documents and as good as it is it's not the full meal deal without Yep. The combination of the two gives me all the content management tools I need. I would be lost without it.
