The inspiration behind Yep is that iPhoto helps you with your pictures and iTunes handles your music--but what do you use to work with your PDFs? Answer: Yep. It's a dedicated document manager, almost a "specialized Finder" just for PDFs. Don't have a lot of PDFs? If you're really ambitious, Yep also gives you the tools to scan and then manage all of your paper documents--moving you out of folders and filing cabinets in the same way that iPhoto gets you out of shoeboxes of pictures.

Yep can handle tens of thousands of files, giving you very flexible and intuitive tagging tools (the "Yep Tag Cloud") that help you sort, view, organize, and archive your documents. You can also use Yep to convert documents in other formats (like Word files) into PDFs--and Yep doesn't duplicate or move your files, nor does it lock you into using Yep in the future with some proprietary format.

That said, it would be nice if Yep gave you the option to easily pull all your PDFs together, much like iTunes consolidates your music library (although many users will prefer leaving their documents in place and just using Yep's tags to manage them). Fortunately, a major revision is currently in beta, so we hope to see this and many more improvements.

Publisher's description

From Ironic Software :

Every computer has loads of PDF, Office and iWork files, probably scattered all over your hard disk. Use Yep to search, view, and manage all these documents wherever they lie on your hard drive. Think of Yep as iPhoto for your documents. Yep does not move or change your files in any way. Yep 2 has new a new faster scanning system that is up to twice as fast as Apple's built in scanning in 10.6. As you go through your busy day drag images, text snippets, ideas, notes, and PDFs into it to keep a running log of your activity. Yep 2 does not store your data in a proprietary database, instead it uses the power of unix, Spotlight and tagging to allow you to keep your files where they need to be, while still allowing you to search and organize as you see fit..

What's new in this version:

  • Fixed bug where 'Command L' added tags instead of marking as unmanaged.
  • Initial startup support.
