    Still not working..

    Summary

They 've been around for 20 years+ now.. but it seems still not working properly.. I am trying and installing it once every year but always uninstalled them after 2-3 days. Good concept and ideas but still way to go. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME.

"I don't trust Yahoo with its scripting"

    December 21, 2010   |   By lmguser

    Version: YPOPs 0.9.6

    Pros

Have not used it, so cannot think of anything. the ONLY reason I stay with Yahoo mail is to glean information with its question/answer application.

    Cons

Yahoo has infested itself with popups and an extremely annoying forwarding mechanism - HIJACKING the browser. So DON'T TRUST any addon regardless of author.

    Summary

Again, I have not used it yet. Every time I go to my yahoo mail and/or search in any way regarding a yahoo search, it either hijacks my browser, installs a toolbar (also a hijacking) or instigated multiple popups (even with Zonealarm firewall). So, do you think I will load ypops to open the flood gates of yahoo crap - I don't THINK so. I deal enough with minor pop ups just with yahoo's innate e-mail handicap(s).

    "Partly functional"

    December 01, 2010   |   By oldmicro

    Version: YPOPs 0.9.6

    Pros

    Setup and run relatively easy

    Cons

    Only downloaded one email

    Summary

Yahoo seems to be fighting this to be able to charge $20 for the privilege of using POP3. This is understandable. Maybe the real answer is to switch to some other email server.

    "No Account Configuration Wizard!!!"

    May 24, 2010   |   By PC_Hamster

    Version: YPOPs 0.9.6

    Pros

I dunno. Downloaded 0.9.7.3 (The ABSOLUTE latest one found on the developer's website).

    Cons

No account configuration wizard. Without this, there's NO WAY that I can see to set it up to download my mail. **THIS IS A MUST FOR ANY EMAIL CLIENT**

    Summary

Not worth the download. As with most every other piece of software that's submitted to CNET which is available via SourceForge, it's just someone's college experiment gone HORRIBLY wrong.

"Was not able to get it to work."

    October 31, 2009   |   By Chip Stan

    Version: YPOPs 0.9.6

    Pros

Sounds like a great idea that would help me integrate yahoo mail with outlook, but it just did not work for me

    Cons

I could not figure it out, even though I would say I have an average technical proficiency.

    Summary

If it would work it would be a great little product, but as it did not work for me, I cannot recommend it.

"Great Concept But Waiting for Developments"

    May 20, 2009   |   By Zalcho

    Version: YPOPs 0.9.6

    Pros

    Money and Time Saver

    Cons

    Search Function on Discussion Forum

    Summary

SUMMARY: I installed YPOPS, it was easy to set up, and it runs without errors. However, it did not actually bring over my Email. BUT I am not uninstalling YPOPS since I am very interested in seeing how this actually progresses over the near future. Please read on?

YPOPS seems to be an admirable attempt by several individuals to get around Yahoo?s questionable policy that the Email found in the free accounts cannot be obtained through the POP3/SMTP found in Outlook and other desk-top mail systems. It is a pain to have to log in several areas to get Email!

I installed YPOPS and I only needed to change my standard ?110? incoming server to ?995? and extended the server timeout limit, and it RAN without errors, but it brought over no Emails from my free Yahoo account. I enabled the pop-up windows to watch YPOPS connect and step through Yahoo mail ? all indications are it reached the account, logged on with password, and analyzed the Incoming and Bulk Mail Folders. So what is happening?

Before we blame the developers of YPOPS, it appears as if maybe Yahoo is aware of YPOPS and might be adapting Yahoo systems as fast as the new YPOPS release is made available. For example, the latest craze to get around Yahoo?s policy (back in March 2009) seems to have been with changing some Yahoo settings in the Account Information to Yahoo!Asia, but as of today the POP3/Forwarding selection in the Yahoo!Asia Account Information is missing (yes, I tried it). Many users on the YPOPS forums said they had YPOPS running and it was working great, but it failed to return Email after a certain period of time (presumably because Yahoo had altered something).

Some very good step-by-step instructions on setting up Outlook after installing YPOPS is available.

YPOPS has a website with discussion forums and you can read all about the latest developments, releases, and the ongoing effort to keep up.

I really like the concept, as it is a money/time saver and supposedly YPOPS is legal, but I wonder if the developers can keep up with Yahoo. And I wonder if it will be a constant effort for users to update YPOPS whenever changes are made to Yahoo (and ergo, YPOPS changes).

Yahoo wants you to shell out another $20 per month to be able to do that and I sure wish YPOPS would bring the Email into my Outlook Express. Maybe you disagree with my rating, but hey ? you gotta give these guys a big thumbs up for trying to provide and maintain free, legal software that would, without a doubt, save us time and money!

The search function on the YPOPS Discussion Forums is perplexing; every time I tried to enter ?server socket?, a message was returned saying my entry was too general and removed from the query ? I have never seen that before, so I have no idea what it is about. Any entry into the search function gave me the same response, so I had to page through the forum to find what I was looking for.
