"Excellent, works really well for local network access."
Version: Xerver Free Web Server 4.32
Pros
Small footprint. Very easy to configure, ready to use within 1 hour. Used Perl CGI, integrates superbly into into existing Perl environment, for Sybase database access and WIN32 WMIC onto other servers.
Cons
A bit tricky with external URL access. As within the company this is completely blocked by the firewall.
Summary
For intranet LAN / WAN access web sites, this is an excellent product. Colleague from other countries can login to website hosted by Xerver to access application without issues. Look forward to future enhancements of this product especially in the following areas:
(1) Command line server start up as well as windows / click mode.
(2) Easier external URL access such that home PC can be setup to host websites for the world.
Many thanks for the brilliant piece of software. -
"Very unuser friendly"
Version: Xerver Free Web Server 4.32
Pros
As i could not get it too work i have nothing positive to say about this product.
Cons
Installed software and ran the auto configure screen but still after all that when i tried to view any page i got the 403 forbidden error. Any Web Server software should have a default setup to allow the user to install and go.

"Good, Basic Web Server. Easy installation and setup."
Version: Xerver Free Web Server 4.32
Pros
By far the easiest web server to install and setup. The installation/setup wizard is straightforward. A web server can be difficult to set up for the novice... even for the expert in fact. Documentation is clear and understandable for the novice and first time user of a Web server. A great web server for the price! (free) Tech support was fast to respond to a question I had via e-mail. A package like this and the support is seldom seen in this day and time; even with software costing hundreds of dollars. I tip my hat to the author of this package.
Cons
I needed a simple server for offline development of Perl applications. Although Xerver does a fine job of running Perl scripts via submitted forms, it has no support for running scripts via SSI (server side include.) I would recommend this web server for those who wish to serve up their personal web pages/site on the web. However, for business use, a more complex server should be used. More features are needed and the security of this web server has not been tested by me personally.
