Publisher's Description
From Microsoft:
Designed by media lovers, for media lovers. Windows Media Player 12--available only in Windows 7--plays more music and video than ever, including Flip Video and unprotected songs from your iTunes library!
Plays more media...
Windows Media Player 12 has built-in support for many popular audio and video formats--including 3GP, AAC, AVCHD, MPEG-4, WMV, and WMA. It also supports most AVI, DivX, MOV, and Xvid files.
...in more places
The new Play To feature streams music and video to other PCs running Windows 7 or compatible devices around the home. With Remote Media Streaming, you can enjoy music or videos on your home PC from the road.
New playback modes
The new Now Playing mode is a study in minimalism: It shows only the controls you need, so nothing comes between you and your music or video. A new taskbar thumbnail with playback controls makes previewing easier and fun.
Easier, more fun
Enjoy smarter DVD playback, 15-second song previews, Jump Lists for fast access to favorite media. And that's just for starters.
Note: Available only in Windows 7. Windows Media Player 12 comes as part of Windows 7 and is not available as a separate download. Check out the Top 10 reasons to buy Windows 7.

"Very bad and buggy"
Version: Windows Media Player 12
Pros
None that I can tell! Free??????
Cons
Every time I add music, one song or more, it crashes. I have to use the Fix-It device constantly due to "file corruption" ect. It takes hours to re-install my music.
I almost forgot about its "Non Responding" constantly.Summary
I have tolerated this version too long, about a year. It is getting no better. I hoped for an update to fix it, but not so far.
I am going back to WMP 11. -
"Plays .mov files from my Canon cameras."
Version: Windows Media Player 12
Pros
Plays .mov files from my Canon cameras.
Cons
The interface is problematic.
First, by default, the menu bar is hidden. Typical for MS and also for other newer programs. So how the hell are you supposed to do anything?
Second, it tries to force me into those cockamamie "libraries" in Windows 7, so it's a bit difficult to locate the files I want to play.
Another con --- not available for XP.
I haven't tried other file types yet so I can't render judgment there. My guess is that they play fine, but I'll stick with VLC for everything other than .mov.Summary
On my XP machine, VLC will not play the .mov files. Splash Lite is very choppy with them. On 32 bit 7, VLC is somewhat choppy but WMP 7 plays the .mov files perfectly as far as I can tell.

"It's not a Bug, it's a feature""
Version: Windows Media Player 12
Pros
It will play CD's and DVD"
Cons
Had to relearn interface AGAIN from WMP 11 to WMP 12. Waste of time.
Windows 7 Windows Media Player 12 will not find metadata for albums. I have checked, unchecked and rechecked all the box in "Organize". I am connected to the internet. Another laptop with XP and WMP 11 can fine metadata. WMP 12 calls everything an "unknown album".Summary
Do not waste time looking for a solution from Microsoft. I wasted at least 4 hours
My solution to the problem - iTunes. It finds metadata perfectly. It can rip my CD so I can have MP3 files. Problem solved. -
"Crap. (please enter 10 characters minimum) Crap x 10!"
Version: Windows Media Player 12
Pros
Ummm....
Give me some time. I might think of something...Cons
- when any file properties are changed or a file is moved, WMP corrupts itself and those files will neither play, or be deleted. Had to rename track titles in order to delete in order to re-import
- corrupted composer info on re-import(inserting artists not even found anywhere in my house let alone on my system - wow!)
- Doesn't recognise file properties on the stuff it didn't corrupt and left me with crap all over the place that I had to manually waste a morning putting in the right places.
- went to synce some albums across to my mp3. Although the feature to tell you how much space is left on your device is there, and "appears" active, it simply doesn't work.
- If I actually bother to try to attempt anything else in this crap program, I believe the chance of it failing are significantly high.Summary
This program is totally unstable and full of bugs. I'm really astounded they actually released this rot with their name on it...
(why am I surprised...?)
Highly recommend not to go here. WMP was always buggy, but it appears they are making a big effort to make it more so. Can't imagine what they are trying to achieve.
Going to download a new player. Can't stand this rubbish. -
"No Good Por Caca"
Version: Windows Media Player 12
Pros
NONE At All !!!
Cons
It will not play most of the newer formats such as MKV.
If it was to do so it could be used to play movies on a WiFi TV connected to a network.Summary
This Caca needs to be FLUSHED.....
-

Cons
they try to be difficult
Summary
difficult to use
-
"Doesn't even rip music very well."
Version: Windows Media Player 12
Pros
None that I can think of.
Cons
Keeps "Not Responding" 90% of the time.
Summary
I don't know how to delete it.
I would if I could... -
"Awful (please enter at least 10 characters?) awful x 5"
Version: Windows Media Player 12
Pros
In no way any improvement over earlier versions. Lots more problems...
Cons
I don't do anything very complicated with WMP. I copy cd's to put on an ipod for the most part. WMP 12 takes forever to start, often "not responding" for a long time, many of the problems I've had I'm told the software is corrupted, searches show many are having the same problems. Most of the time it opens telling me I have nothing in my library. Some items copied are shared in the wmp12 library and some are not and will not transfer over. For some reason the library decided to duplicate many of my albums and audio books, sometimes triple versions of cds that I now have to sort out in my "free time".
Summary
Don't upgrade unless you like searching for solutions to the newest problem.
-
"Poor, couldn't connect."

Pros

Cons
