The Windows 8 shutdown process is obviously different than in previous versions. I found lots of workarounds to this but nothing was simple. I combined some VB code and Java script to make this app that does not require any other software (other than what is installed on most computers) to function. When you click the tile, the 'classic' Windows Shutdown Box appears giving you the option to shutdown, restart, etc. If you can setup an e-mail account, you can probably install this app. Here are the steps: 1) Download and unzip the files into a folder. (anywhere on your computer) 2) Right-Click the 'Power' app that is created in the folder, select 'Pin to Start' 3) Move the tile to where you want it on the screen (optional) 4) Enjoy a simple way to shutdown, restart, hibernate, etc. your computer.

Pros
This app does exactly what it you want it to do, skip Win 8's three steps to shut-down or reboot.
Cons
Win 8 Shutdown Tile basically executes a couple scripts in an elegant way, I assume there are combinations of unusual events that might interfere with the process.
Summary
There are excellent menu apps that put the Windows Start Button back on the desktop, but there is a good reason to try to get used to the Metro Mobile/Desktop Start Tiles. After a few months you begin to view them as simply big icons, and you start to like the new tablet "desktop" better. I put the Start Button/Menu back on one desktop and left it off another. With heavy use of pin-app-to-taskbar for convenience on the Desktop (like in Apple OSX), the Start Button/Menu is not needed. However when you get the inevitable "you must restart..." message from a program, the Win 8 log-out, open log-in screen, choose power icon method of rebooting seems like getting your bicycle out to ride to the end of the driveway. This very simple app helps us to shut down, but more importantly let's us reboot, without sitting around for the 3 step dance to complete. Plus it is free, so give it a try and don't forget to pin the Win 8 Shutdown Tile to the taskbar so it is accessible from Metro and the classic Desktop.
