Publisher's description of Windows 7
From Microsoft:Windows 7 is the updated version of the Vista operating system from Microsoft. It was built around feedback from users and has been developed to work with touch screen controls, among other features.
However, because Microsoft isn't providing technical support for the Beta, we strongly recommend that only experienced computer users sign up. How experienced? At minimum, you should be comfortable backing up a computer, formatting a hard drive, burning an ISO file to DVD, and installing an operating system from scratch. You should also be comfortable troubleshooting problems on your own. If you've not used beta software before, please read the warning messages and make sure you know what you're getting into.
Windows 7 provides an improved taskbar and full-screen previews. Jump Lists put the documents you want handy and the ones you've used recently a couple clicks away. Desktop enhancements simplify how you work with the windows on your desktop. You'll have more intuitive ways to open, close, resize, and arrange them. Introduced with Windows Vista, Windows Search helps you find virtually anything on your PC quickly and easily. Windows 7 also makes search results more relevant and easier to understand. Available now, Internet Explorer 8 helps you do what you want online, faster. With Windows 7, you'll use a single Devices and Printers screen to connect, manage, and use whatever printers, phones, and other devices you have on-hand.
CNET Editor's Note:
The 32- and 64-bit versions of Windows 7 RC are available in five languages: English, German, Japanese, French, and Spanish. The Download Now link will take you to Microsoft's download page where you can choose the version that fits the system you'll be using, pick your language, then register for Windows 7 Release Candidate and receive a product test key.
The RC will expire on June 1, 2010. Starting on March 1, 2010, your PC will begin shutting down every two hours.

Version: Windows 7 Release Candidate
"Beautiful, elegant, sure to please your senses."
Pros: I love the new task bar design. I think the Aero theme in windows 7 is a bit better than in Vista. 7 has also fixed numerous headaches that are still present in Vista, even after SP2. It is very stable, and believe me, I have put it to the test.
Cons: There are still a few issues from Vista that still are a problem in Windows 7, such as trying to install a network printer. I fear some things may never work right. There are also some programs which worked on Vista that don't work at all on 7.
Summary: Windows 7, even the release candidate, is definitely much better and much more stable than Vista. It should run on any PC or laptop that will run Vista. The specs say you need 1024 MB RAM, but it runs good on one of my laptops with only 512 MB. I've... read more >>

Version: Windows 7 Release Candidate
"windows 7 rc > windows xp > windows vista"
Pros: fast, fairly stable for non retail, and looks good
Cons: the expiration date (lame)
Summary: Been a XP user for several years now, after trying Vista for an extremely brief time (i think windows ME was better), but this truly is the best windows to date.

Version: Windows 7 Release Candidate
"The fastest, most secure, best looking Windows!"
Pros: It's speed overruns XP, sleeky, flashy, elegant look, compatibility close to perfect, most of the built-in system software and utilities are greatly enhanced! Many new features makes Windows 7 simply really enjoyable in use!
Cons: Still some small bugs & glitches persist - but it's of course RC version yet...

Version: Windows 7 Release Candidate
Pros: I am very happy that I upgraded to Windows 7 RC because I was able to get my audio drivers reinstalled with Turtle Beach Montego and my 64bit system which is no longer a problem. Also removed a program that I found impossible to remove on Vista Basic
Cons: Unable to listen to my Netflix movies because the sound is now choppy all the way through. I had to disable my ZoneAlarm Extreme Software that I paid $79 just a few months ago, Hopefully ZoneAlarm will make ZoneAlarm compatiable with Windows 7 soon.
Summary: Looking forward to the finished version of Windows 7 Ultimate.
