CNET Editors' review
This one-trick pony only converts your WAV files into MP3 format, but at least it's totally free. WAV to MP3 Encoder works quickly, and the interface is simple: just drag and drop files directly from Windows Explorer. However, as its name suggest, the application doesn't support other audio formats the way more comprehensive programs do. Also, though you can of course choose the bit rate of your new audio files, you won't find a VBR option. However, if you're looking for a way to compress WAV files in the MP3 format and your jukebox of choice lacks conversion skills, this application makes an acceptable, if somewhat medicore, option.Publisher's Description
From MThree Development:
Encode your ripped WAV files into high-quality, noncorrupted MP3 files so you can store your favorite CDs or share them online. This program gives you the option of creating MP3s at 40-bit rates and three sampling rates and in two channels. Batch-convert unlimited WAV files in the fast and easy WinZip-style interface, and preview them before encoding. Also, encode WAV files into custom file sizes for use with portable MP3 players.

"Useless POS"
Version: WAV to MP3 Encoder 2.5
Pros
Nil, zip, zilch and zero.
Cons
It's operation.
Summary
The first track I tried it with and it came up with some zero error message so I removed it, I'm not going to fuss around working out why it wouldn't perform.

"Didn't work for me at all"

"Did not work. Did not even uninstall correctly"
Version: WAV to MP3 Encoder 2.5
Pros
Suggestive name: WAV to MP3. Too bad it doesn't work.
Cons
It doesn't work. Always crashed, never encoded a file.
Uninstall also failed (cannot find install.log??? it was RIGHT THERE) and needed to be done manually.Summary
Pure crap. Never worked, never encoded, always crashed. Uninstalled manually because not even that worked.

"Did not work"
Version: WAV to MP3 Encoder 2.5
Pros
Looked like it was going to be very easy and straightforward -- easy interface.
Cons
Downloaded. Crashed multiple times. Never encoded.
-
"Used once in a batch protocol and it worked very well."
Version: WAV to MP3 Encoder 2.5
Pros
Worked as advertised. User friendly.
Cons
Was under the impression that the download was "free" and was not "time limited." That was not the case with my download. It expired and I was offered the chance to "buy" the software. I think that this is a very sleazy way to get someone to buy a product. Either it is totally free with time constraints or it has time contraints with the option to buy at the end of the time limit. Being up front it the way to build a customer/consumer base.
Summary
As previously stated, the product worked fine. Just did not like the way it was presented in a misleading manner.

"One trick pony minus the trick"
Version: WAV to MP3 Encoder 2.5
Pros
None because it didn't work
Cons
One, it didn't work
Summary
I write chants/songs for education companies. A client sent me two WAV music files today, I needed to convert them to MP3. Due to the mixed reviews thought I'd give this program a try.
I can only give it one con and no pros because it crashed every time I tried to use it.
Visited the Trouble Shooting page, followed their step by step guide, same result, crashed the moment I tried to encode.
I'm using Windows 7.
You might want to roll the dice and see if you are one of the few for whom this one trick pony will actually perform. Or you can give it a miss and try Free Wav to MP3 Converter Version 1.7: currently a few places below this one in the list.
Not only did that work first time, it is also a far better set up in my opinion. The export folder is automatically set as the same one you get the files from; you can of course change that if you wish.
The program I'm negatively reviewing here, for some weird reason, wants to dump the MP3 file in a systems folder. Changing that is not easy for someone who is not somewhat familiar with computer file systems. A moot point though, if the pony won't perform for you anymore than it did for me and others.
If I were you, I'd give this one a miss and just go with the other superior program. -
