Tristana RSS Reader is an RSS newsreader that instantly alerts you of the latest news, blogs, and podcasts all right at your desktop. Safe, secure, SPAM-proof content is delivered right to your PC in real-time without e-mail. Tristana's simple 3-panel interface allows you to add or remove RSS or Atom feeds at any time. You can set preferences to be alerted with a pop-up window the instant that content changes at a Web site. Tristana also synchs with your iPod and allows you to view podcasts and media files. Built-in Ping service allows you to submit your feed instantly to RSS feed search engines.
Version 5.0.0.45 updates feeds with dynamic urls and lets you permanently change feed names.

Only a few example newsfeeds come with the program, so you'll need to find more on your own. Fortunately, the search box on the top of the interface helps you find RSS feeds by keyword. You also can click the Add Content Channel button and enter RSS, XML, or RDF links you find at your favorite sites; the program tells you how to do it if you need help. Unlike some readers, the viewing window offers convenient Forward and Back buttons so you can move around in pages you're reading.
Also, you can choose whether you want to view a story in the viewing window or in an external browser. Overall, we think Tristana is a great free reader for newbies who want to check out RSS.

Pros: I have used this reader for over 4 years and with each version it just gets better.
Cons: Better search options would be nice.
