CNET Editors' review
Tree hierarchies are a great way to organize information, starting with broad concepts and adding increasing levels of detail. TreeDBNotes Free is an easy-to-use program that lets you use tree hierarchies to create databases of all kinds of information, whether you use it as a contacts manager, to organize notes for a book, to keep track of recipes, or even as a journal. Even if you've never used this kind of program before, TreeDBNotes Free is easy to learn and will have you creating trees in no time.
The program's interface is attractive and easy to navigate, with menus across the top and a pane down the left side to display the tree hierarchy. TreeDBNotes Free comes with a sample database that includes both examples and instructions; after clicking through it we felt like we had a pretty good handle on how the program works. We created our own database and quickly began adding folders and notes. We especially liked how easy it was to move items around within the hierarchy simply by dragging them to the desired location. TreeDBNotes Free has a ton of formatting options, letting users create tables, insert images, set hyperlinks, customize text, and much more. The program also has a search feature, making it easy to find the information you need in a large database. In addition to the sample database, the program also has a proper Help file--in database form, of course--that provides comprehensive documentation. Overall, we found TreeDBNotes Free to be quite versatile and useful, and we recommend it to anyone looking for a better way to organize large quantities of information.
TreeDB Notes Free installs politely but leaves a Start menu item behind upon removal.
TreeDBNotes is a powerful and easy-to-use personal database program, PIM, word processor, e-book maker, alarm and reminders, contacts and passwords manager with tree structure, advanced encryption and password protection. What's new in this version: Version 4.34 Build 01 has added Export notes to DocX (Microsoft Word 2009/2012/2013) format.

"Feature Rich - but buggy"
Version: TreeDBNotes 4.31 Build 01
-very versatile tree-style organizer
-very good formatting tools
-I absolutely love the functionality of this software, suits my organizational style perfectly
-can export to MS Word for sharing out-put
-fairly reliable copy/paste from various sources (Web sites, other software)
-free version is very good (I only bought Pro version because I use it for business and did not want to violate any terms of service, but the free version is fine)
-buggy, occasionally wipes-out formatting (no data loss)
-no mobile OS support
-poor support from on-line forum
-other program features are of little use (contact manager, password manager
-cannot export to any other common note taking software
-concern about having so much valuable information stored in a proprietary format from a small (unreliable?) company, while you can export their files to a Word file, you would loose all of the organizational functionality of the tree organizer
I give this program 4.5 stars on tree-style note organization functionality
However, the poor support, infrequent updates, and buggy behavior knock it down to a 3 stars
"Contains Funmoods malware"
Version: TreeDBNotes 4.26 Build 01
Good product for free
Contains malware and forces all your browsers to use funmoods search engine.
"My complicated life is (finally) organized."
Version: TreeDBNotes 4.25 Build 01
I teach, conduct research, attend meetings, write up papers, and analyze data for my job, and this is the first program that allows me to integrate all that desperate info and put it together into meaningful structures so that I can stay on top of things. My productivity has greatly improved and my stress level has greatly been reduced. And its free! Crazy!
The free version is too good, such that I feel guilty using it and not contributing in any way to the developers, so I'll probably buy the full version soon. (Yeah, kind of a joke Con, but, honestly, I really can't think of a real Con.)
Most useful program of the 50+ programs I have on my computer.
"Pretty, not reliable"
Version: TreeDBNotes 4.1 build 05
Arbitrary tree depth, very good note formatting tools, strong media support, tabs combined w/tree have the potential to be EXTREMELY useful organization tool.
Good import and export tools - was amazed when it brougt in an html file folder structure pefectly.
Sorting. The software defaults to alpha sort in trees and subtrees. If I wanted that I could almost use a spreadsheet. Needs robust positional support and it doesn't have it.
Also, tree record style editor is pretty clunky. Awkward to use but lots of options so it's a good/bad sort of thing.
Also, support forum is problematic. Web admin approves/disproves any post to the support forum. I've got a problem with that.
After a trial of two weeks, I went ahead and paid for the Pro version, then put two weeks and about 80,000 words of data into it and it turned it into hash. I've spent four days reconstructing the database in an alternative package that doesn't reorder records at random.One additional con: uninstall did not happen cleanly... app failed to remove the link in the start menu (Windows 7).
It has potential, and didn't *lose* any data, it just refused to serve it up the same way twice.
If you value the organization of your data - you'll keep looking.
Updated on Dec 13, 2011
If this app survives, I'll certainly look at it again in a few years.
"TreeDBNotes Free try it and you won't be disappointed"
Version: TreeDBNotes 4.0 build 03
* Tree outline hierarchy.
* Tabbed sections.
* Link folders, notes in any combination.
* Rich text formatting.
* Place images and hyperlinks in notes.
* No spell check.
* No password protection.
Other functionality removes and available on paid versions.
It is a great organizer for notes, ideas, web clippings and any other sort of data you might need to organize.
Developers website has full details on the Free vs Paid version.
Any of the paid versions are well worth it and not expensive.
