TreedBNotes Pro is a personal information manager, database program, and word processor. TreedBNotes Pro also includes an alarm and reminder feature plus password protection and encryption capabilities. Still not impressed? TreedBNotes Pro's e-book feature helps you write that great American novel or training manual (that is, formatting the text, sharing or not with other readers, and creating a Table of Contents and fully searchable text; the creative writing part, well, TreedBNote Pro leaves that to aspiring Melvilles and Grishams).

TreedBNotes Pro sets itself apart from similar programs in the way it stores data in tree-like structures which lets users organize (and find!) complex information in an intuitive way. Each of the particular tree's substructures (called nodes) is actually a document such as a contact or a note or folder. With TreedBNotes Pro, one can have as many trees as your hard drive can accommodate. Another great feature of TreedBNotes Pro (other than the very nifty e-book feature) is its robust Contacts template, which gives users the opportunity to include all kinds of pertinent and not-so-pertinent information about the many people in one's life, including birthdays, children's names, Web sites, and photos. It's also easy to change the template background color, add a photo, an icon selected from a menu of icons, or with the capability to include a note or two about that particular person (for example: "Nancy collects antique watering cans and is allergic to carrots"). You can create lists of contacts and quickly send them all a file created in the program's word processor.

Although quite easy to use overall, novice users may find it initially overwhelming. That said, TreedBNotes Pro offers a 30-day trial that is long enough for you to determine just how useful this program's many features are to you.

"Excellent tree-style note organizer / poor support"

December 17, 2012  |  By PrimeroFin

 |  Version: TreeDBNotes Pro 4.31 Build 01

Pros

+very powerful and flexible note organizer
+very rich text formatting features
+supports tables
+reasonable cut/past compatibility with other applications
+free version is very powerful (I only bought the Pro version to comply with my companies software rules for business software)
+can export content to Word or other formats for sharing info
+portable version is available

Cons

-program is buggy & updates frequently cause more problems than they solve
-bugs (for me) have been limited to formatting problems (not data loss) or certain features simply stop working in new versions
-no appreciable customer support (even for paid versions)
-user forum requires admin approval, official admin response to forum posts are very slow
-infrequent product updates
-no mobile OS support
-minimal browser support
-no on-line sync options
-cannot export file to other note organizer software (concern about having extensive amount of info in proprietary format from a small, not very reliable company)
-ancillary features of marginal value (contact manager, task manager, password manager)

Summary

If they just made this more reliable and added mobile support this could be GREAT program. As of now its a very good notes organizer with some ugly pimples (poor support and reliability)

tree-based note organizing functionality: 4.5 / 5 stars
reliability & support 1 / 5 stars
overall 3 / 5 stars

Updated on Dec 22, 2012

Update to my previous post:

Do NOT buy this software.

Product support is non-existent, even for paid customers of Pro version.

There are significant bugs in software and I have not received a response in months to my email request for help and my posts to forum have not been approved by the forum admin. Bottom-line, I paid for a program, but have received absolutely no support. None.

Go ahead and use free version but don't give a penny to this company until they improve their customer support.

"Won't do what I needed it to do, replace OneNote"

June 29, 2010  |  By stealthpaws

 |  Version: TreeDBNotes Pro 3.48 build 02

Pros

Seems versatile and useful for research-installed easily.

Cons

Virtually no documentation for help, and the "community" (forum) was a joke. No one even answered my questions, and there is just no help available for someone who has not much experience in this type of software.

Summary

I was looking for a replacement for OneNote. This software does not support the collection of things like on-line receipts, emails AS THEY APPEAR and such without cutting and pasting, and even that is more cumbersome than necessary. And... if I'm wrong and it DOES support saving or printing to a file in the way that OneNote does, there was no help file, FAQ, or such to help me learn how. I will certainly not purchase something for which I can get no help.

"Well thought out and very useful notetaker"

June 09, 2010  |  By coolrat33

 |  Version: TreeDBNotes Pro 3.48 build 02

Pros

I use the program for organizing research notes, and a huge amount of information that I cut and paste from the Internet. TreeDBNote?s search function is very good- It lets me search for keywords that appear in any document stored in the TreeDB file.

Cons

1. Needs to have a Firefox web clipper plugin.
2. Windows only, but it runs well in WINE in Linux. (the only problem is during copy & paste from Firefox in Linux to the app, all formatting is lost.) Developer should make a cross-platform version.

Summary

Overall a great tool that allowed me to give up OneNote 2007 and switch to Linux. Despite the program's shortcomings when running in WINE in Linux, its still very functional tool useful for researchers and information pack-rats.

"An Overly Complicated Program"

May 03, 2009  |  By hokusbloke

 |  Version: TreeDBNotes Pro 3.37 build 010

Pros

Great visuals and a good goal

Cons

Every update has HUGE problems that make it difficult to use the program
Incompetent and arrogant support
Steep learning curve for using the GUI
Customized shortcut keys that are not retained on re-start

Summary

An overly complicated GUI and poor customization and arrogant/incompetent support make this a very bad choice....better to go with My Notes Keeper or Right Note.

"Great tree structure notes, info, DB! Current ver 3.37"

January 15, 2009  |  By yocalif

 |  Version: TreeDBNotes Pro 2.81 build 089

Pros

Ease of use, more features than other simple tree or notes style DBs. Excellent support. So far no problems and really like using TreeDBNotes Pro ver 3.37. The negative review must of used beta, no issues in current version.

Cons

PIM could be beefed up a bit more.

Summary

1st this is easy to use, the GUI is simple and understanding structure isn't complicated. Lots of features for simple notes db. I'm using for recipes storage, online info, (email accts, online forums, online subscriptiion, storing passwords and login info). The PIM features are very basic, and I wouldn't consider this for PIM. However if you only need contacts, a simple calander, this will do. For storing online research or project info TreeDBNotes Pro is great.
Online support forum is active and the author helps those who need it.

"Version 3 - Export to rtf disabled"

August 04, 2007  |  By Minotaurus009

 |  Version: TreeDBNotes Pro 2.81 build 089

Pros

While this software once WAS great (v 2.x) the new 3.0 versions...

Cons

... seem to downgraded. As already noticed,

1. Tree Manipulation no longer works:

- with mouse (drag & drop) is disabled

- with keyboard / hotkeys you cannot move the treenodes anymore (up/down etc).

(you are forced to click buttos with the mouse).

2. Export is crippled to just one page at a time.

- you cannot export a whole tree structure anymore. This is interesting, because writing an article or paper is what many people probably want. But all of a sudden you cannot export the whole tree anymore. Why? This is also a security risk, since I personally like to know my files to be secure stored as rtf.

So before purchasing check these downgradings out. Existing users might keep a copy of the old versions before "upgrading".

"Version 3 - Tree Manipulation Disabled"

August 04, 2007  |  By Minotaurus008

 |  Version: TreeDBNotes Pro 2.81 build 089

Pros

In general an excellent piece of software and a big "upgrade" to those used to keynote.. however...

Cons

Since Version 3 tree manipulation is disabled (why???). You cannot drag and drop treenodes any more. This was possible in prior versions. Furthermore you cannot insert nodes or delete nodes with hotkeys. This was possible in older versions and even in good old KeyNote.

You now have to click zillions of buttons to move nodes up, down or to reorganize your tree. This leaves the new version useless to anyone working seriously with bigger trees.

I wonder why the developers disabled the principal feature of any tree-based application. => You may want to check this problem out before buying.

"License not honored"

July 29, 2007  |  By be_blaze

 |  Version: TreeDBNotes Pro 2.81 build 089

Cons

I purchased a copy of version 2 of this software. When I purchased it, it was sold with a license that indicated that upgrades to ALL future versions would be at no cost. When version 3 was release there was now a cost to upgrade from version 2. I was told by the developer that they had changed the license. So even though they sold it indictaing that upgrades would be free they chose to not honor their license. I have chosen to no longer use they software.
