When emptying a Mac's trash can, some items may be locked, which prevents removal. Trash It! for Mac is a basic program that forces the trash can to completely empty, but has no additional features and is not a useful program.
Trash It! for Mac is available as a free application. The program downloaded quickly, but there was no installer for the program. Instead of having one program that worked with all Mac OS X versions, the download included two separate folders, one for version 10.8 and one for earlier versions. There were no technical support or user instructions available, but the program had no menu and was easy to use. After the user opens the folder for the appropriate operating system version, there is an icon in the folder to initiate the program. Double-clicking it brings up one menu that allows the user to perform the delete function quickly, or have the program complete it slowly for complete operation. Clicking the fast option during testing emptied the items in the trash can quickly, as the application advertised. Unfortunately, the program had no other function or purpose.
While the program may have some use for a small number of users with locked items in their computer trash, Trash It! for Mac offers no additional functions that would be of use to most Mac users.
This AppleScript force-empties your Trash and/or removes stubborn items. Especially useful if you have files or folders in the Trash with permissions set incorrectly, locked Trash items, want to securely delete a stuck item, or trash items from other partitions. If you drop files or folders onto the Trash It! icon, it will delete them immediately. If you double-click on it, it will clean out your Trash can.
