CNET Editors' review
Download.com is jam-packed with to-do list programs, and most of them are more or less the same. To-Do DeskList surprised us by delivering a fresh, unusual design and just the right number of features. If you're in the market for an unobtrusive but flexible task manager, this just might be the one.
To-Do DeskList's interface is sleek and attractive. The program appears as an icon in the system tray, and when you're ready to create a new task, you simply right-click on the icon and select Add To-Do from the menu. The program lets you set each task's priority level, add detailed notes, and set an alert if desired. Each task then sticks to the desktop--you can specify which corner you prefer--displayed as a translucent rectangle that the program refers to as a leaf. The leaves get stacked on top of one another as you add them and can be ranked in order of importance; once you complete a task, they slide off the screen. We liked that you can create hot keys for adding new leaves, and can also change the program's color theme and even create themes of your own. The program's built-in Help file is thorough and more or less makes sense, although it's not the best use of the English language we've ever seen. Overall, To-Do DeskList doesn't really bring any thrilling new features to the table, but we appreciate its ability to take something as mundane as a to-do list and make it stylish and kind of fun.
To-Do DeskList installs a desktop icon without asking but uninstalls cleanly. We recommend this program to all users.
Publisher's Description
From Dextronet:
To-Do DeskList is a to-do software that is powerful in its simplicity and effectiveness. Synchronize your tasks between computers, or share them with other people. You can invite users to share your to-do list, all you have to do is to enter their e-mail address. Its development was inspired by real situations at work or home when new small to-dos or thoughts come to mind while working and it is not efficient to store them into a complex to-do list software. There are several ways how to handle them though - write them on paper, store them for example in notepad or forget them after a few seconds. Since non of these methods is too efficient To-Do DeskList was made to help with storing such tasks and thoughts into a well-arranged and well designed to-do list in a way as simple and fast as possible. As such, To-Do DeskList aims to provide a fast and effective way to store your to-dos when you don't want or don't need to store them in a complex hierarchical structure and you prefer simplicity over thinking about how you should one concrete to-do categorize etc. Often when such to-do doesn't take more then a few words to write down, we avoid opening a complex to-do list software at all. For these situations To-Do DeskList was made.

"More than Expected Results.."
Version: To-Do DeskList 1.4
Pros
V Easy to Use
Good Looks
Reminders/schedulers/priorities included
Works very silently in the backgroundCons
Occupies more space on desktop
Icons hide behind it and cannot be opened
Not many customizing options to move or adjust the size, list/icon mode, etc.Summary
The software is much more than expected from a free software. i was looking for such a thing from days n at last i found one free. Unbelievable. The only feature missing that i expected was to be able to add a deadline to a task and as the deadline nears, the color or priority gets adjusted automatically based on some set criteria..
Overall 8.5/10 -
"Disappointed in the amount of todos shown..."
Version: To-Do DeskList 1.4
Pros
I liked the availability of the program..Memory resident and at hand.
Cons
Each leaf shows only one item... Hard to put together priorities from individual leafs.
Summary
I believe that this program could be made better by making it more of a list rather than independent leafs

"Simple program for simple tasks"
Version: To-Do DeskList 1.4
Pros
Nice mouse driven commands - reminder is helpful. easy to edit and delete
Cons
Takes up a little to much desktop space when opened. Would prefer one size that I could click thru to see all the 2-dos.
Summary
Nice freeware. For a more full-featured program, I would use Notes that comes bundled with MS Office.

"Just what I've wanted!!!"
Version: To-Do DeskList 1.3
Pros
Very easy to use. Not complex. User-friedly. Can customize skin and font size.
Cons
The cusomized skin isn't woking well for me. But I'm just sticking to the ones that are already available.
Summary
It's like a post-it note on your desktop. The boxes don't take up any of your taskbar (like when you open a new program). And you can customize it to appear on the right side, left side, top, down, etc. This is exactly what I've wanted and I love it. And best of all, its free!!
I highly reccomend it if you are not looking for something too difficult. Its an easy way to remind yourself on everyday, simple, and forgetful tasks. -
"Brilliant, just what I needed"
Version: To-Do DeskList 1.3
Pros
Simple and very effective. Not a window of lines like all the others. Not too complex. Much of it can be configured to your liking. Good help section. Totally free!
Cons
Customised fonts & colours doesn't work for me - when I try and set what I would like, I only get the default font and the dark colour. But it's only a minor thing.
Summary
Each To-Do you make appears in a little box up the side of your desktop, sorted into high priority at the top, down to low priority at the base. You can edit them, view notes you add, & they go in one click when you've done with them. Much of it can be configured - change skins, change size of the boxes, choose whether to have it display at startup or not, and so on.
Forgot to mention, you can also set it as a Reminder as well. After just a few days use, I am finding that To-Do DekList is really helping me act upon my priorities.
