TheWorld 3.1 is a Web browser based on the engine that powers Microsoft Internet Explorer. Like Internet Explorer 7 and 8, TheWorld has a multithreaded frame that is supposed to prevent window freezing.

The browser's default appearance is simple, yet it feels cluttered because its toolbar is packed with icons. Its user interface is similar to that of Internet Explorer 7 and 8 except for a few minor details. The icons are bubble-like and the top toolbar is on the right-hand side of the screen next to an extra option that lets users hide it. TheWorld also supports custom mouse gestures; right-click and move the mouse to the left to go "back," or right-click and move the mouse up and right to open a new tab, for example. If you tend to use multiple tabs simultaneously, is has a slider bar that hides all of the tabs except for the last one. It also has a built-in download manager and pop-up blocker with their controls at the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. Its preinstalled extensions, such as page tools and the ad filter, are located in the add-on manager on the bottom toolbar as well.

TheWorld Browser's Web site features several of their own add-ons. Its uses Google as its default search engine and has a search bar at the right-hand corner of the screen. When first opening the browser, there is a "start page" tab that lists your recent pages and includes a search bar where you can choose between Google, Yahoo, and Bing search. The heart-shaped icon at the left-hand side of the screen adds favorite pages above the tab bar for easy access and stores them in a yellow star icon, like Internet Explorer's, as well.

The browser tends to load sites with a lot of HTML slowly, and its browsing speed generally feels clunky. In a simple timer test using Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3, TheWorld received an average cold start-up time of 4.82 seconds, warm start-up of 2.73 seconds, and navigating time (from nytimes.com to facebook.com) of 1.64 seconds. When compared with Internet Explorer 7, it's slightly slower than IE, which received 4.99 seconds, 2.32 seconds, and 1.59 seconds times, respectively. On the Sunspider JavaScript benchmark test, TheWorld received an average score of 57,374.7 milliseconds and Internet Explorer received 56,816 milliseconds. Because of inconsistencies and varying results, it is tough to say which browser has faster JavaScript performance. But when compared with other Web browsers, such as Google Chrome that gets an average score of 734 milliseconds, their JavaScript performance is slower.

Apart from several useful features such as the one-click sound muting, tab options, and mouse gestures, TheWorld Web browser is mediocre. If you want a fast performing browser, you should consider other browsers. One curiosity with the application is the Chinese error message that came up while browsing, but it didn't stick around long enough for us to copy and paste it into a translator. Maybe the creators of TheWorld browser took the name a little too literally.

"find it slow and certain features are lacking."

February 28, 2012  |  By Roncnet2000

 |  Version: TheWorld Browser 3.4.0.5

Pros

its a good browser. most of the website that i tried work. pvcs etc that work with IE only browser works here too. is threaded, has task manager which show the system usage within browser. can drag tabs to a different window of its own. setup wizard.

Cons

1. slow 2. restore last closed tab session after closing and re-opening the browser (is a must feature); is quite frustrating when you have to keep clicking the restore button to do the restores of the tab one at a time. 3. like opera if it could have the spin dial where you save you favorite site when click the new tab button. 4. side panel as in opera 12 or maxthon3. 4. when going to addons website and clicking on the button for view all addons it hangs.

Summary

overall good browser. need improvement in speed department and certain other features mentioned in the cons above. in my opinion, just these minor UI issues are holding it back from leaving big time browsers like google chrome in the dust.

give it a try see if you like it.

for now i will stick to opera + maxthon3.

"Forget this browser it is not well maintained-"

October 11, 2010  |  By andreaborman

 |  Version: TheWorld Browser 3.1.6.8

Pros

Not a lot. It worked okay but I could not access the home page of this browsers website-a sure sign of bad management.

Cons

BE WARNED - if you are upgrading from The World 2 to this version The World 3,this will install the new version of The world on your computer and desktop alongside The world 2 WITHOUT uninstalling the old version. And that bad maintenance.

Summary

First of all if you are upgrading your old outdated version of a the same browser to the new version,it should uninstall old files and the old browser and replace it with the updated version. For example, when you upgrade Google Chrome or Firefox ,the old editions of Google Chrome and Firefox are automatically replaced with the updated version. That is you cannot have 2 versions of Firefox or G. Chrome on the same computer. So if I have Firefox 2 and upgrade to Firefox 3,then my version of Firefox 2 is replaced with Firefox 3 instead. It does not keep 2 versions on the computer and it is the same rule for all browsers that are normal and maintained properly. Unless you have Firefox beta which is the Chrome based browser so that is different. But The World browser DOES NOT do this. When I upgraded the World 2 version which is the older version to the new version The World 3,instead of replacing the old version with the new version. I found 2 versions of The World browser,BOTH world2 and World 3 on my destop both active but it should have got rid of the older version and replaced it with the new version. But it did not. This is a sure sign of bad browser software maintenance on the part of the company that makes this browser. This also means that anyone upgrading this browser will have to uninstall the old version themselves.Although both versions work I could use both World 2 and world 3 together on the same computer. This may cause problems for a lot of people who are not experienced in computing, who may make the mistake of keeping both old and new versions on their computer as the 2 browsers could conflict or clash with one another as they are the same browser software.Yes,we do have Google Chrome and Google Chrome Canary build Installed on the same computer but they are different directory files and Google Chrome Canary is a separate installation of Google Chrome just as Chromium is and is designed to be a seperate browser from the other. Just as Flock beta which is a chrome browser and Firefox beta also a chrome browser can is designed to so it can be run alongside it's Mozilla Flock and Firefox as they too are separate browsers from the beta. But I do not thinK The World is designed like this and to install the new version alongside the outdated version is a grave error. That is number one. Number two the new version of The world is very slow an awkward to deal with and you cannot even get on to their website for support either,an other bad sign. And finally there are many other good browser that work far better than this,The world 3 does not perform well at all. and any browser that performs so badly that it cannot even upgrade itselfe to the later version by replacing the old browser version with the new. And installs the SAME browser twice on the computer, should be ashamed of itself. So do not even bother to get this browser. Give it a miss. Andrea Borman.

"The best Trident rendering layout engine based browser"

July 12, 2010  |  By Tolanski

 |  Version: TheWorld Browser 3.1.6.8

Pros

They're listed under the "Bottom-line summary section" because they wouldn't fit in this 250 characters the most section.

Cons

-Lack of skins/themes and add-ons.
-They took out the Tab preview/Tab list function feature in the 3 series, or at least I haven't found it, maybe it's hidden or something.
-The "Anti-crash, anti-freeze" function has never worked for me.

Summary

I'm listing the "Pros" here because they wouldn't fit int the 250 characters the most 3. Pros section:
-Quite fast.
-It can totally mute the sound of any desired webpage in one click button. (*).
-Restores last session closed tabs, but not like Firefox that opens them all right away, this one opens a page listing the last closed opened webpages, and you can restore the ones you want one by one or all at once. (*)
-It can hide tabs by scrolling them left. (*)
-It features a list preview as tumbnails of all the open webpages in a single page for easy navigation, kind of like the foxtab add-on in Firefox (I think they took this function out in the version 3 series though :( , or at list I haven't found it, they may have hidden it?)
-It features a "Restored last closed tab button.

* Haven't found this feature in any other Internet web browser I've used, so I would say these features are exclusive to this Internet web browser

"The World 2.4x and 3.1x have been my standard for years"

June 22, 2010  |  By babarob

 |  Version: TheWorld Browser 3.1.6.8

Pros

Additional to other comments I've seen: The skin in 2.4 can be completely customized with any graphics editor; and the forum is a lode of further skins, plugins, etc. Worth the investment - fast, clean, highly customized, safe, what's not to like?

Cons

Very rarely, 2.4 won't loadscripts properly. Then I go to 3.1 or IE8

"My preferred browser"

June 22, 2010  |  By keblensis

 |  Version: TheWorld Browser 3.1.6.8

Pros

Having tried most of the standard bowsers I settled for The World 3 years ago for its speed, simplicity and elegance. I have never found it slow to load (see review) and found no reason to move to a different browser.

Cons

None that I've yet found.

Summary

The latest version has all the merits of its predecssor. It may be among the lesser-known bowsers, but it deserves to ranked among the best.
