This parental control software protects kids from inappropriate Web sites, though it misses some common security features.

You'll first need to register the program by submitting your name, e-mail, address, and phone number to create parent and user accounts. TUKI Scout Kid Safe Browser has a skinnable interface with a user-friendly Microsoft Agent to guide navigation. Alas, it does consume quite a chunk of memory.

You'll find several pre-approved sites for fun and learning, and you can add your own list of Allowed/Restricted sites. Search tools and a web-based e-mail service give youngsters the feel of any standard browser, and pop-up blockers give parents added peace of mind. We like how easily the program lets us configure the animated character to say encouraging messages to kids such as "You can achieve anything" and "Remember to do your homework." The program worked pretty well during our tests; however, blocks or passwords to prevent access to other browsers aren't given. Kids can easily close the program window and launch any other Web browser application on the system. A scheduler would've been beneficial as well.

Overall, TUKI Scout Kid Safe Browser performs well, but security-minded parents will want to look for more fastened security measures.
