The unwanted scrolling certainly DID cause annoyance and hardship! What a terrible design on an otherwise nice netbook.

Aren't you wonderful! I had been suffering with that damned touchpad for years- until I happened to see your review. *SOLVED!* Your directions worked perfectly. On the Win 7 Starter OS, the Device Settings tab is located on the far right of the "Mouse Properties" window that comes up when you choose "Mouse Properties" from the Control Panel.
(The solution is located in the small "reply" under SingerBill's review. Finally, a solution!).
Freedom from unwanted scrolling! And it's all thanks to *you* figuring out that information. My profound thanks. : )

Don't have a lot to say good about this PS2 Port Touchpad. Sorry.

I agree the PS2 Port Touchpad is a pain in the neck to navigate with. The feature that is most exasperating to me is the edge of the touchpad scroll. While navigating on a page one must be very careful not to approach the edge of the touchpad or suffer the anguish of having pages skip by or sentences skip by that you were editing. Then you have to relocate where the heck you were before the scrolling incident occured. A true pain when compared with my Asus that has no scrolling option is a whole lot easier to use. My old Toshiba A35 has a much easier to use touchpad too but it is quite worn out.
Summary
If someone has a solution to turn off this scrolling function on the PS2 port touchpad please let me know. I truly hate the feature. I'm not sure that engineers who develope these "new innovations" are really doing it to enhance the user experience as much as they are just making changes to keep themselves employed. "HELP".

I am so sick of this touchpad, the only thing good about it is that it can be turned off, and it allows scrolling.

The buttons are integrated with the touch pad so that you can use the entire space for navigation. While this seems like a good idea, touching the button and the nav area at the same time (like when selecting a sentence or two of text) they conflict.

This makes navigation a pain, and makes selecting text nearly impossible. I almost always use a mouse. When I first got the computer, I thought it was just issues with me being a new user. But I've now had the laptop for 9 months. I've done all kinds of research on the settings, and have modified and experimented with preferences and settings in the driver over and over to no avail. The laptop itself - HP Pavilion dv6 is a pretty decent machine. But I would not buy it again because of the irritating touch pad. Just give me normal buttons, and a touch pad that does what I expect. I don't need all these bells and whistles that make it nearly impossible to use for normal word processing and data work. -
