Stomp started its life as an idea to be the ultimate video recompressor, and ended up something so much more powerful than that. YouTube, Google Video, iMovie. The list goes on and Video is a huge part of your online life. Ever tried to email a movie clip to Grandma? What, it's 400mb for a short clip of your cat playing the piano? Well, that's no fun at all (the file size, not the cat). Enter Stomp, where size does matter.
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
The one star review posted here of Stomp is not a fair evaluation by any standards. Yes Stomp can take many hours to process a large movie file, especially so when in the multi Gb range, but really high compression takes a very long time to process. The higher the compression the longer it will take. If you compare the compression routine in Stomp to other compression routines you will find that the high level of compression Stomp achieves is truly astounding. It also has video editing that is, in many ways, on a par with editors for still images, an amazing accomplishment, not to mention the various filter effects you can apply.
It does suffer from having very poor instructional support, despite the online video tutorials. It badly needs an in-depth help file that you can consult as you are using the program. The program is fairly complex, and navigating it can be challenging, especially so with the instructional videos which are really very surficial. Stomp has huge capability, but learning to use all those wonderful features can be daunting and frustrating. I hope they will decide to produce a very comprehensive downloadable help file to go along with this otherwise excellent program. The statement in the one star review says to continue to look for a compression program, but I suspect you will not find one that is anywhere nearly as powerful as what Stomp has. If you need truly staggering compression, Stomp is the best out there in my opinion, and you get so much more than compression as well. I should add that I have never seen it crash.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
It works okay, but it takes hours and I do mean hours up to twelve or more.
If you don't mind the constant crashing, the snail pace compressing then have at it ...... ( or just keep looking for another compressor)
