"Pretty smooth and easy"

July 18, 2016  |  By ralvaradotx

1) They have free version (just google "StatPlus:mac LE") that has all features I needed for the statistics class
2) Works well with Excel 2016 (I checked only with trial version) and Numbers.
3) Many commands have more options than ATP that comes with Excel

1) Manual is ok, but while some commands have detailed descriptions and slides, other ones are not so good (missing examples, step-by-step demos).
2) And your textbook won't have howtos for Statplus, as it is not as popular and powerful as programs like SPSS.

The free version + free Numbers (comes with every new Mac, just be sure to open AppStore on a new Mac), was a lucky find for me. I rarely post postivie reviews but Statplus is really underestimated tool

"A buggy and outdated commercial product"

May 16, 2013  |  By kkc245

 |  Version: StatPlus:mac 2009

1) advertises a good selection of statistical tests
2) in principle easy to operate in conjunction with Excel.

1) Crippling bugs with no product updates for years (literally).

When I purchased StatPlus several years ago, the product claimed to work with Office 2011, despite being marketed for use with the older version. Since then, I have yet to see a single update released to improve compatibility and address several ongoing bugs, such as a recurring problem with "file access" that I haven't been able to resolve with standard troubleshooting (i.e repairing permissions, deleting plist files or reinstalling.)

2) Non-existent technical support.

No responses to multiple formal requests for support and follow-up inquiries over very long periods of time.

At one time, I thought StatPlus was a promising product, but the developers have utterly failed to support my needs as a paying customer.

Instead, it has proved to be the worst kind of commercial software: one that was tempting in concept and just affordable enough to lure academic users, yet flawed to point of uselessness. Beyond being unusable, StatPlus has actively waste my time.

Had their technical staff merely responded to any one of my inquiries, OR had they released a reasonable update, I'm sure this review would be framed quite differently.

Instead, I've abandoned StatPlus entirely, and gone back to my less convenient, but more powerful and reliable standby, SPSS.

"Maturing nicely and Fills a major gap Recommended"

You could be a student or teacher of statistics, an academic on a budget, a budding researcher. Statmac Plus is worth your time to explore.
In the real world much data lives inside Excel (or can be exported to it -- especially if you have to work with M$ Access). If you do not want to export your data to other programmes for statistical analysis and would like to work within Excel, you should look at StatMac Plus.
Its only real competitor is XLSTAT which is good but expensive and has withdrawn support for next versions of Excel on the Mac (due to dropping of visual Basic functionality in Office 2008 by its inventors Microsoft).
So realistically StatMac is your only hope.
This does not deter the software from being very competent and increasingly fast and easy to use. The interface is quite simple but little awkward and requires some getting used to. The time investment is no greater than exporting Excel data to another programme.
All the usual options are there and work well. The developers are very responsive and have taken the programme to new performance levels with each update and have promised more.
For teachers of statistics and lone researchers StatMac is highly recommended. There are price options for those on a budget.
