Despite a minor quirk in its design, this freeware app effectively breaks up large files and, unlike its competitors, can even split folders. Splitter light doesn't require installation and its small size makes it easy on your system resources, but its odd oval shape seems to cut off part of the text on the interface. Fortunately, this design flaw doesn't impact its functionality, and the file or folder splitting process is accomplished in just a few steps. In addition to locating files or folders with the built-in browser, we were impressed that you also could add them with the drag and drop method. Also commendable are the options to copy Splitter to the output directory for your split files or create a batch file so others can rejoin files without the program. Splitter light worked well in our tests on both files and folders of various sizes, and even though no help file is included, it should prove easy enough for the novice to use. This app's features and functionality make it stand out from other freeware splitters, and we recommend it for both the beginner and the expert looking for a cheap way to manage their large files.Publisher's description
From Martin Stoeckli :With Splitter you can split large files and directories to parts of 1.44MB or other sizes. Because Splitter is extremely small (55KB), you can deliver it easily with the first disk for unsplitting. Splitter splits files or whole directories (including subdirectories). You can select any size of parts you like. Splitter is able to handle very large parts (only limited by the operating system). No installation necessary, Splitter can run from a floppy disk. The date of the original files will be restored. * Drag & drop from the windows explorer. Splitter optionally creates batch files for rejoining. Full commandline support.
Version 4.0 features commandline support, batchfiles for joining.

Version: Splitter light 4
Pros: Split any file to any size you want. It`s lightning fast! This program uses very little memory. The best thing is that you don`t have to install it( viz. no need to uninstall). Just run this tiny program, close it & that`s it. If
you don`t like it just delete the program itself & over. NO NEED TO GO TO THE CONTROL PANEL TO UNINSTALL OR WHATEVER!

Version: Splitter light 4
"I like this program alot - almost perfect"
Pros: Best file splitter program out there!!!!
The program is small (55kb), fast, FREE and easy to use. You can drag and drop the files onto the program for easy splitting. You don't have to install it on your computer to use it (unlike some programs). It is easy to select portion sizes (not like one program where you have to input the size portions in bytes - hmmm lets see, 4mb portions thats about 4000000 bytes - hope i got enough zeros in there.) You also get to determine where the split files end up - it automatically sends the file to the same location as the original file.
Cons: While it has no major problems, there are some things that could be improved upon. Maybe it is better the way it is, but I would like a fast (and easy to select) option where you can have the split files go into a folder with the same name as the original file. Also, the shape of the program (its an oval egg shaped design instead of a rectangle) is not the greatest - it looks a bit funny. These changes are the only ones I suggest.

"Simply put, the best file splitter out there"
Pros: Everything, it's small, not cumbersome unlike those 3.something meg splitter that...split files. It even makes its own batch file to join the splitted files. And, again, its small, so bring it with you in your flash drive.
Cons: None, I love it.
