CNET Editors' review
Video technology is advancing by leaps and bounds, and it's no wonder that high-definition video is growing in popularity. The crystal-clear picture it provides is often stunningly life-like. Splash Lite is a sleek application that lets users view a variety of high-definition video formats that can't be handled by the average media player.
The program's interface is attractive and well-designed, with a menu that appears only when moused over. Using Splash Lite is as easy as using any other media player--the user simply opens the file they want to view, and Splash Lite plays it beautifully. The program supports a variety of video formats, including AVI, MKV, MOV, M2TS, MTS, M2T, MP4, MPG, TS, and also has options for handling subtitles and adjusting audio and video settings. Slash Lite can even be used with a TV tuner to view HD broadcast television. The program comes with a PDF Quick Start guide that is well-written and thorough, walking users through each of the program's features. Overall, we found Splash Lite quite easy to use, and we were impressed with the features and options that it offered. We think this program is a great choice for anyone who needs a simple way to view high-definition video files; beginners will appreciate its intuitive design, and more advanced users will find settings that allow them to customize their experience.
Splash Lite is free. The program installs a desktop icon without asking but uninstalls cleanly. We recommend this program to all users.

"very limited functions unless you buy PRO"
Version: Splash Lite 1.7.1
Pros
1 - it actually works
2 - sound is better than KMplayer
3 - GUI is great, best I've ever seen for a media player
4 - TV tuner function (only in PRO)
5 - only 13 megabytesCons
1 - you really can't evaluate the software fully unless you buy PRO
Summary
A beautiful well organized interface, plays well, good sound, and it will probably only get better - as long as they keep it simple.

"VLC Downhill, traded up and found splash"
Version: Splash Lite 1.7.1
Pros
I have only used it for 1080p playback but here are its benefits for me
GPU Decoding - Great for HTPCs that have onboard ATI and really cuts down on the CPU usage
NO TEARING... VLC had a huge problem with tearing on HD files, no longer the case
Easy to use keyboard controls and mouse - similar to VLC so it was an easy switch
Ultrasmooth playback, has some nice options as well.
7.1 surround sound audio support on the EX version!Cons
I can't really see any as of now. Some users have mentioned problems playing certain files but I haven't run into this issue. The playback is much better than VLC.
Summary
I would suggest that anyone who has switched over to high def files that they take a swing at splash player, I'm certainly loving it.

"Very fine but small bugs ruin the program."
Version: Splash Lite 1.7.1
Pros
HD Quality.
Cons
Video management could have looked better.
Media Player crashes at some video's, even sees some .AVI files as audio-only files that other video media players play normally.Summary
It's a good media player, just wished the things I mentioned in the cons would not been there when I bought it.

"Splash Lite Could Be The Best Video Player Out There"
Version: Splash Lite 1.7.1
Pros
Splash lite video player could be the best video player you can download for your system, it has great looking video playback, the video is crisp and clear, especially if its in high def, of course if you download a video that looks bad, it wont look any better on splash lite, or any other video player for that matter, you get what you download when it comes to video, no video player out there can make a video that was recorded bad look any better. so why could it be the best video player you can get, because the splash lite video player program is what it says, LITE, like, lite in the options department, but than again, this is the free version, but even so, they could have gave you a lot more options than they do no matter that its free or not, the km video player is free and their are tons of video and audio options, but this still does not hurt the splash lite player, for what you get from the program, its all real nice, the video looks great and the gui is clean and easy to use
Cons
splash lite needs more video and audio options
Summary
Go with REALPLAYER or THE KM PLAYER, until the people behind the splash lite program add more audio and video options, but if you dont care about this than by all means download splash lite, it has the best video playback of any free video player out there
